NITDAA Our Vision

The journey begins :

National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, formerly Regional Engineering College was established in the
year 1960, with its first batch of about 50 students graduating in 1965. Since then the Institute has grown
from a sapling to a big tree. Already some 51 batches have graduated as brilliant engineers who have made
a mark in their respective fields.
There have been various Alumni associations - city based, batch-based, and functioning in tandem as
splinter groups, organized by few very enthusiastic alumni. The question of giving back to the Institute or
its students was lacking. The formation of NITDAA was the realization of these aspirations of the alumni.

Consolidation :
During 2002, the then Board of Governors of the College decided to patronize an Alumni Association.
Thus National Institute of Technology Durgapur Alumni Association (NITDAA) was formed in 2002 &
subsequently, registered under the Registrar of Societies, Govt. of W.B. in 2004.

Main objectives :

To act as a forum of human interaction for the Alumnus and their dependent children.
To help and support their alma mater to improve educational and professional standards, help and
support needy and meritorious students, help in vocational training and placement and strive for
improvement of the college.
To provide a forum for exchange of technical and professional information within the members of
the association.
To work for the wellbeing of the brotherhood as a whole and NIT, Durgapur in particular.

The Structure :
The organizational structure of NITDAA has been designed as under:
Apex Committee:
This is the central decision making body. It will guide, monitor, frame policies and guidelines, maintain a
central data bank of all members, co-ordinate with the Regional chapters, initiate all activities of the
association and ensure that the Aims & Objectives are fulfilled.
Regional Chapters:
In all metros, cities and towns in India and abroad NITDAA Chapters will be formed with ex-students
residing in that particular area with the same Aims & Objectives and structure of NITDAA. The Regional
chapters will work in close co-ordination with the Apex Body. Tenure of both Apex and Chapter
Committees are for two years. On expiry of terms, fresh committee members are elected.

The Activities:
Beyond the Walls : NITDAA has started a lecture series "Beyond the Walls". It features outstanding
alumni sharing their knowledge and wisdom with the present students of our alma mater. Already a
number of alumni have sent their consent and brief outlines.
S.N. Ray Memorial Scholarship :
It has instituted two Scholarships per year for four years in the memory of our founder Principal S.N. Ray,
under which two meritorious but needy students from each year are being awarded S.N. Ray Memorial
Scholarship at the rate of Rs.12,000/- per annum. This Scholarship fund is generated through generous
contribution from our alumnus.
Global Meet
The Apex Committee organizes Global Meet every year on the second Sunday of January at the Campus
to propagate its Aims and Objectives. Large numbers of alumni members from all over the Globe attend
the meet and exchange ideas to glorify their alma mater.

The meet is basically divided into three sessions, namely, Inaugural session, Business session and Cultural
evening. In the Inaugural session - three eminent retired Professors are felicitated, leading personality
from Industry
Golden Jubilee celebration :
It started observing Golden Jubilee celebration of the batch graduated 50 years back. The graduating batch
of 1965 were felicitated in the Global meet, 2015 and 1966 batch during 2016 at NITD. They were
overwhelmed by the love and respect showered by the alumni. They shared their experience of their stays
at NITD in those days when things just started shaping up and how proud they felt to-day with the
tremendous growth of the Institute.
Silver Jubilee celebration :
The batch of 1987-91 will be invited by NITDAA to celebrate their Silver Jubilee at NITD.
Benevolent activities :
NITDAA acts as facilitator for various benevolent activities, particularly, in reaching out to ailing alumni
members. In the initial years, NITDAA donated large amounts to Alumni members for their treatment.
Presently, it is acting as facilitator in raising funds, relocating the alumni & family members in the city of
treatment, arranging donors, etc. NITDAA has been helping alumni and their wards to relocate jobs,
looking for accommodation in far off places. Very recently, some significant amount has been donated to
the family of a final year student who expired during last semester examination before getting proper
medical care.
Future plans :
The Apex committee felt that the growth and success of the Institute rests on the success of all its four
main organs : students, faculties, administration and alumni. The Committee has taken special efforts to
nurture a strong bond with our mother Institution. Accordingly, it was decided that NITDAA and NITD
should come closer and work together as a team and be part of four main organs of the Institute. With the
blessings of the present Chairman and initiative of the Director, NITD Authorities, on our request and
realizing the need to work together, have appointed Dean & Associate Dean (Alumni, International
Relations & Outreach) during end of 2016. The Apex Committee welcomes the move and now expects to
work in close co-operation with the Institute. The Dean took initiative and formed two committees :
1. A Committee for Interaction with Alumni comprising one faculty member from each Department
and a student representative of Students Gymkhana and
2. A Students Alumni Committee comprising representatives from all Departments B. Tech, M.
Tech & PhD students with Associate Dean as faculty Advisor.
From NITDAA side, it has taken initiative to be part of the PAN NIT Alumni Forum, the process of
formation of which started from April, 2015. Dean (Alumni), present & past President of NITDAA
attended the meeting at MNIT, Jaipur during January, 2016.
