Engine N1 Rotor Balance (IEVM method)

A.

General
(1)

This task gives the procedure to use the IEVM system and the screens of the system on the
CMC display.

(2)

The operational limit of vibration is given in EMM TASK 72-00-00-700-802/1300 subtask

72-00-00-760-171.

(3)

This task gives the instructions to do the standard balance procedure. The Engine Manual
gives cold trim balance instructions, additional information and some examples about the
balance procedure. Refer to the latest revision of CF34-10E Engine Manual (EMM TASK
72-00-00-800-811/200).

(4)

NOTE:

Embraer recommends that you do the standard balance procedure, but the
cold trim balance is permitted, provided that you obey the instructions in the
latest
revision
of
CF34-10E
Engine
Manual
(EMM
TASK
72-00-00-800-811/200).

Do not do the cold trim balance procedure for both engines at the same flight
leg.

The IEVM solution is an add-only solution. It does not take into account any existing balance
weights in the FAN or LPT that may have been installed, during and/or before balancing. In
some situations, the weight removal can be done. After it, an engine vibration check is
required.
NOTE: Weight removal means to replace a balance bolt with a lighter one. All balance bolts
must be installed in the spinner.

(5)

This task gives the 1-plane balance (SUBTASK 750-005-A) and 2-plane balance (SUBTASK
750-006-A) procedures. You choose the balance procedure.
NOTE: 1-plane selection balances the fan and 2-plane selection balances the fan and the
LPT.

SUBTASK 750-001-A
(1)

Do an inspection of the fan and booster assembly and of the spinner support, if
applicable (EMM TASK 72-00-00-800-811/200).

(2)

Do a check of the fan balance bolts (Figure 512). Record the part number and the
position of the installed balance bolts.

(3)

To do the balance procedure, you can use the engine-operation history data or you
can operate the engine on the ground and use this data. If you want to use the engineoperation data history, go to SUBTASK 750-004-A. If you want to operate the engine
and use this data to do the balance procedure, do the steps that follow:
(a)

Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance of the powerplant
(AMM TASK 71-00-00-910-801-A/200).

(b)

Start the two engines (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-801-A/200). Let the engines
stabilize for 3 minutes.

(c)

On the T/O DATASET page on the MCDU (Figure 501):

1

Select TO-1 and increase TO TEMP until N1 reference for Takeoff is equal
to or higher than 93.3%.
NOTE: At low temperatures, it is possible that the engine will not reach
93.3 % of N1. In this case, you can ignore this value and consider
the other N1 values to do the engine balancing.

Balance Procedure With IEVM - Vibration Check

SUBTASK 700-004-A
(1)

Do the test that follows:

NOTE:

If you choose to do the cold trim balance, a ground check run is not
required. Refer to the latest revision of CF34-10E Engine Manual (EMM
TASK 72-00-00-800-811/200).

Do not do the cold trim balance procedure for both engines at the same
flight leg.

(a)

Start the engine (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-801-A/200). Let the engine stabilize
for 2 minutes. Do the engine vibration check (EMM TASK
72-00-00-700-805/1300, subtask 72-00-00-760-121). Make sure that the vibration
values decreased and are in the limits (EMM TASK 72-00-00-700-802/1300,
subtask 72-00-00-760-171). If necessary, do the trim balance procedure again.
NOTE: The balancing acquisition mode is in constant loop. Sometimes, you
must do the balance procedure again to get the wanted vibration values.
As soon as the wanted vibration values are within the limits, you can stop
the engine vibration balance procedure.
