The 1th World Community Power Conference WCPC2016

November 3rd 4th. 2016 in Corasse Fukushima , Japan

As a part of the "Powering Communities" Project

of EU-Turkey Civil Society Dialog Energy Grant
Program, "Solution in Energy" topic is evaluated
with the stakeholders. Starting from already
taken steps for energy efficiency and renewable
energy implementation, the contributions
expected from the stakeholders of Diyarbakir,
Van, anakkale and Burdur cities for Transition
to 100 % Renewable Energy are described and
for each city example Community Power projects
are designed.

Major Episodes of Severe Air

Pollution due to Inversions
1930: Meuse River Valley, Belgium
An inversion led to a high concentration
of pollutants during a period of cold,
damp weather
Main sources: zinc smelter, sulfuric acid
factory, glass manufacturers
60 deaths recorded
1948: Donora, Pennsylvania
Similar inversion to Meuse River Valley
Main sources: iron and steel factories,
zinc smelting, and an acid plant
20 deaths observed
1952: London
Killer fog (right)
Primary source: domestic coal burning
4,500 excess deaths recorded during
week- long period in December

EXTERNAL COSTS

Update impacts of:

Acidification
on freshwater fish
Acidifying compounds
(SO2, NOx and NH3) on terrestrial ecosystems, including agriculture
Eutrophication
on drinking water, boating, swimming, recreational fishing
Visual intrusion
landscape aesthetics of renewable energy (wind and hydro) and
eutrophication.
Energy security
assessment of policy options to reduce - and insure against - the costs of
energy insecurity
Damocles risk
risk where the possible damage can be very high, but the probability that it
occurs is very low
mega-dams or nuclear power plants.
Risk aversion

Nuclear Energy Policy,

Mark Holt,Specialist in Energy Policy,

Nuclear Power Status and Outlook

No nuclear power plants have been ordered in the United States

since 1978, and more than 100 reactors have been canceled,
including all ordered after 1973. The most recent U.S. nuclear unit to
be completed was TVAs Watts Bar 1 reactor, ordered in 1970 and
licensed to operate in 1996 . Reasons for the 30-year halt in U.S.
nuclear plant orders include high capital costs, public
concern about nuclear safety and waste disposal, and regulatory
compliance costs.
