Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
InTASC Standard:
Standard #3: Learning Environments. The teacher works with
others to create environments that support individual and
collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social
interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation
(InTASC, 2013).
CEC Standard: Standard #6 Collaboration
Special educators prepared at the advanced level have a deep
understanding of the centrality and importance of consultation
and collaboration to the roles within special education and use
this deep understand to integrate services for individuals with
exceptional learning needs. They also understand the significance
of the role of collaboration for both internal and external
stakeholders, and apply their skill to promote understanding,
resolve conflicts, and build consensus among both internal and
external stakeholders to provide services to individuals with
exceptional learning needs and their families.

They possess current knowledge of research on stages and

models in both collaboration and consultation and ethical and
legal issues related to consultation and collaboration. Moreover,
special educators prepared at the advanced level have a deep
understanding of the possible interactions of language, diversity,
culture and religion with contextual factors and how to use
collaboration and consultation to enhance opportunities for
individuals with exceptional learning needs.

Brief Description of Evidence:

As part of my EDUC 224, Introduction to Scientific Inquiry, as
a class we worked collaboratively in lab groups and STEAM
presentations to give our amount of scientific inquiry knowledge
to those who we not aware or did not know about this type of
learning. We created hands on activities in the labs that included
easy, cheap, and fun learning practices for all ages. Each group
during the labs and STEAM presentation worked effectively and
together to provide viewers with new ideas to use in their
classroom or at home. While each group worked interactively with

each other, the projects provided were to engage the students

participating to work together and give each other tips and help
during each activity. In my lab for EDUC 224 I created a fun
environment for my peers by placing artwork at each of the
stations for attraction. After involving each student creatively, I
used my organizational skills to set up each station divided into
areas of weather including; Storms (such as lightening, rain, and
tornadoes) as well as the good weather aspect being sunshine.

Analysis of What I Learned:

I learned many things when it comes to working
collaboratively as a class. One thing specific is how each group
that was divided into labs for presentation got along for the most
part and I believe that is the most important part in becoming a
teacher, and that is teamwork. If teachers and other staff in a
school system do not work effectively with each other then there
will be tension and will affect the students learning to some
extent. I also learned that motivation upon yourself is key to
learning. Being motivated has helped me engage and inspire the
learners that I presented my lab to.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the

InTASC Standard:
My competence for EDUC 224 was able to teach me the
importance of teamwork and how teaching new things to my
fellow students made me feel more comfortable being a teacher
and speaking to my class when I become a teacher. I feel like I
learned scientific inquiry by collecting different activities online to
present to the class and give them a hands on activity to do to
connect what they currently learned verbally. I think that I
mastered this class primarily by being motivated to do research
and perform activities for my peers and using my lab for peers
who use their creative side and their academic side.
