2. Derive the Equation of Motion for the inverted pendulum as shown in Figure 1 by using
DAlembert Principle. Compare the Result with Energy Method.
i.
Find the natural frequency.
ii.
If we increase siffness of spring element by 20% then how much change occured in
its time period.
3. A uniform simply supported steel beam supports weight W of 27 kN at the center of the
member. The length L of the member is 8.0 m, the width b = 10 cm, the depth h = 20 cm,
and the modulus of elasticity E = 206.843 MPa. By neglecting the mass of the beam and
using an idealized single degree spring-mass system, determine the free undamped
frequency of the beam and the period of vibration.
4. The system shown in Figure 2 consisting of an unknown mass m and a spring with
unknown spring constant k has been observed to oscillate naturally with the frequency
n = 100 rad/sec. Determine the mass m and spring constant k knowing that when a
mass M = 0.9 kg is added the modified natural frequency is n = 80 rad/sec.
5. The maximum velocity attenuated by the mass of a simple harmonic oscillator is 10
cm/sec, and the period of oscillator is 2 sec. If the mass is released with an initial
displacement of 2 cm. Find (a) the amplitude (b) the initial velocity (c) the maximum
acceleration and (d) the phase angle.
6. Consider a Rigid Frame as shown in Figure 3 having Rigid beam which is distributed
horizontally. Initial velocity and Initial displacement are 4 m/s and 0 m, respectively.
E=25000 N/mm2. Column dimentions are 350mm 350mm.
