It's strange...why isn't Jeongmin coming? It's already been three

days...I should call him and check...
Hello?
Jeongmin, why aren't you coming to your part-time job?
I'm sorry. I don't think I can go anymore. I got a job.
You did? Congratulations. But why didn't you tell me in advance?
I'm sorry, I got this job suddenly so...
Okay...
I'm very sorry. I couldn't call because I was sorry.
But still, why didn't you call me? The shop is extremely busy
these days.
Why didn't you look for someone else?
What? How can I look for someone else when there's no news
from you?
I'm sorry. I really have no excuses.

Grammar Points
The Focus of This Lesson is Asking, "Why Didn't You...?" in Korean: -
.
"Why didn't you call me?"

- (-ji geuraesseo) is a grammatical structure that means "why didn't you... / it would
have been better if you had..." or "you should have... ." Originally, this structure comes from
- (-ji geureoke haesseo) which literally means "Why did you do that instead of
doing this?" So as a set structure, we translate it into English as "why didn't you...," or "you
should have... ." You can add - at the end to make it sound more polite, or make the verb
honorific by saying (geureosyeosseoyo), too.
