Metallurgical Review

Feasibility Study and Detailed Study

A comprehensive metallurgical testwork

programme consisting of comminution,
beneficiation, acid leaching and solvent
extraction/stripping, was designed by METS
to study the amenability of the Mount
Peake deposit to hydrometallurgical
processing.
METS and TNG jointly developed a new,
patented technology breakthrough. The
revolutionary
technology
is
a
hydrometallurgical process suitable for
extracting vanadium, titanium and iron
from titanomagnetite.

METS
was
engaged
to
conduct
metallurgical
review,
to
develop
flowsheets, detailed process description,
process design criteria and piping &
instrumental diagram. This was followed by
the illustration
of a plant
layout,
mechanical equipment list and project
implementation strategy. METS then went
on to commissioning and performance
testing of plant.

This project included the creation of a

financial model, metallurgical services and
test works, second hand equipment
sourcing, transportation and re-assembly.
Planning and design for construction of
new equipment was required for the
unique process. Preparation and planning
for the construction of a power grid on site
was also created. METS key initiatives also
included the cyanide destruction circuit
and dry tailings facilities.

Scoping Study

METS conducted the following test work:

> QEMSCAN mineralogy to determine
quantitative mineralogy of the different
ore types
> Flotation testwork to consider alternative
collectors.
> Grind sizes and conditioning to produce
a higher quality phosphate concentrate
> Uranium leach and recovery testwork to
establish possible uranium extraction
> Beneficiation testwork on an additional,
high grade phosphate sample.

METS designed and managed an extensive

testwork program to develop a processing
route to produce a chromite sands
concentrate as part of a feasibility study.
Various magnetic and gravity separation
methods were trialled before a flowsheet
was proposed. This was modelled to
estimate
recoveries
and
determine
throughputs for a number of production
rates.

Mineral Engineering Technical Services Pty

Ltd (METS) was involved in the FEED Stage
to identify areas from the DFS study that
had risk associated which impacted plant
utilisation, operability and efficiency of
beneficiation and providing solutions to
overcome these obstacles while ultimately
achieving a final costing before execution.
