    assessmentandstandardisationofcoursesinyogaandnaturopathy,registrationofpractitioners,andaccreditationofinstitutes.
    UnlikethemedicineandengineeringcourseswhichareregulatedbytheMedicalCouncilofIndiaandtheAllIndiaCouncilforTechnical
    Education,respectively,thereisnoregulatorybodyforyogaandnaturopathycoursesasofnow.Thishasledtofakeandfraudulentclaims.
    The14memberAYUSHTaskForce,headedbyPadmaShriawardwinnerH.R.Nagendra,Chancellor,SVYASADeemedUniversity,
    Bengaluru,inits40pagereporttotheUnionMinistryofAYUSH,headedbyShripadY.Niak,hasrecommendedsettingupofaNational
    BoardforPromotionandDevelopmentofYogaandNaturopathyunderthechairmanshipoftheAYUSHSecretary.

    ThesettingupofsuchabodyassumesimportanceinthewakeoftheallegedsuicideofthreegirlstudentsofSVSCollegeofNaturopathyand
    YogaScienceatKallakurichi,nearVillupuram,inTamilNadu,afewdaysago,followingallegedfinancialexploitationbythecollege

    management.
    Currently,degreecourseofBachelorofNaturopathyandYogaSciencesisbeingconductedinsomeStates.Thereis,however,noCentral
    legislationforregulationofeducationandpracticeinyogaandnaturopathysystems.Thetaskforcehasrecommendedasystemfor
    registrationofpractitionersandaccreditationofinstitutesonthebasisofguidelinesformulatedandissued.
    TherearealargenumberofAYUSHinstitutionsinthecountry495undergraduatecolleges,106postgraduatecolleges,11national
    institutes,fiveStateuniversitiesandtwoprivatelyfundeduniversities.Thetaskforcesaystheyarenotonlyunregulated,butdonotappear
    tohavesufficientlyimpactedeitherdomesticorglobalhealth.
    ThetaskforcesaidallexpenditurepertainingtothenationalboardshouldbebornebytheMinistryofAYUSH.Itrecommendedallocationof
    minimumofRs.200croreayear.Besidesofficials,the22memberboardmustcomprisefiveeminentyogaexpertsandfivenaturopathy
    experts.
    ItsuggestedsupportingresearchfellowshipsinAYUSH(JRF,SRF,researchassociates,postdoctoralfellowshipsetc.)tobehousedat
    reputedinstitutions,includingaccreditedones/laboratories/universities/PGcollegesbothinthepublicandprivatesectors,tobuildresearch
    capacityforinnovation,focusedonAYUSH.
    ItrecommendedestablishmentofadvancedresearchunitsinreputedAYUSH,andmodernscientific,medicalandsocialscienceinstitutions,
    bothingovernmentandnongovernmentsectors.
