Activity 1: The Cozy Cottage

Civil Engineering is quite a broad discipline; the

one which is concerned with the designing,
constructing and maintaining houses is called
Structural Engineering. The procedure were
using to put the house together is fairly simple.
All you need is glue or tape to put it together
around the edges, which have already been cut
out for you.

The LED lights can be stuck to the inside of the houses (Use the windows for
a cool effect). The issue of power will be resolved thanks to our power
supply, which is a Windmill. It will be connected to the lights through
insulated electric wires. There are other energy sources which can be used
instead, such as a battery. All you need to do to light up your cozy cottage is
to connect the battery with the LED using the same wires.

How a Wind Turbine works?

Wind power involves converting wind energy into
electricity by using wind turbines. A wind turbine is
composed of 3 propellers-like blades called a rotor that
is attached to a tall tower. On average wind towers are
about 20m high. The reason why the tower is so tall is
because winds are stronger higher from the ground.
Wind power is converted into electricity by magnets
moving past stationary coils of wire known as the stator.
As the magnets pass the stator, AC electricity is
produced. It is then converted into DC electricity which
can be used to charge batteries or can be fed into a power grid.

How Solar Cells work?

A solar cell is an electronic device that catches sunlight
and turns it directly into electricity. We see electricity at
work every day. For instance, when you turn on a lamp,
electrons move through the cord and light up the bulb.
That flow of electrons is called electricity.
One solar panel is made up of many small solar cells.
Each of these cells uses light to make electrons move.
When the light hits an electron in the first layer, the
electron jumps to the second layer. That electron makes
another electron move, which makes another electron

move, and so on. It was the sunlight that started the flow of electrons, and thus
generated electricity

Benefits of renewable energy

1.
2.
3.
4.

Renewable energy is, well, renewable.

It is clean and results in little to no greenhouse and net carbon emissions.
Reliable Energy Source.
Renewable energy is also cheaper and more economically sound than other
sources of generated energy.

Activity 3: FunTech: Observing Cells

Using the Micro Phone Lens which is the world's first
device that makes your phone comparable to a
professional or laboratory microscope, you can now see
the tiniest things that are invisible to the naked eye
directly on your mobile phone!

5. Place the mobile with the lens over the slide.

6. Focus carefully on the slide.
7. Stain the cell using iodine to see it better.
