Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing to inform you that the School Governors have decided to pursue plans to
convert Kingsley Primary to an academy. I light of the Governments ambition for all schools
to become academies and the demise of Local Authority support for schools, we felt that it
was better to choose an academy sponsor/trust before this became compulsory, and before
the potential rush to convert quickly towards the identified deadline, means that choice is
limited. Alongside other schools, we are in the process of approaching, and seeking
information from a range of sponsors and trusts.
Considerations that the Governors have had to explore in reaching this decision have not
been easy and this decision has been made to try to secure the long-term future for our
school. Highlighted below are some of the factors that Governors see as the criteria for
choosing a sponsor/trust to meet the needs of the school academisation;
As a priority, a sponsor that has children as the focus in all that they do
To be able to select a trust rather than be forced to join a trust chosen for us
To retain our unique identity as a school and not be part of a corporate organisation
To make a choice of trust with ethos and values compatible to those we hold at
Kingsley
Importantly, to join a trust that will recognise the excellent staff team that we
have at Kingsley and provide support and development opportunities for our valued
staff
To have access to opportunities to develop as a school and to have the challenge and
support of a trust that can help us improve
To continue to work closely with other local schools that provide a valuable network
for improvement
To join an established trust that can support the school, but that the school can
contribute to and influence
To have minimal impact on children and families only to continue to raise standards
for all children
