Before viewing Edward Scissorhands, the

students were asked to complete a chart
with all of their knowledge on films and
directors on KWL chart. The students were
formatively assessed on the K and W
sections and then sumatively and
formatively assessed on the L portion. This
was designed to gauge the levels of interest
in film, how much they already understand,
and which areas need more attention.

x
Throughout the unit students will write in
their journals to respond to prompting
questions that relate back to the essential
question. Students are asked to relate the
questions to the film study, but are also
encouraged to reflect on their own lives and
share as much as they are comfortable with.
