People are considered social animals. We love to speak, talk to one another and meeting new
friends. These just show how attached we are in socializing. We love to engage ourselves on
what's happening around us. We love hearing gossips. It's a fact. Whether we like it or not, gossip
is part of our lives. Good evening everyone, I am Mariella Antonio and I am here to claim that
gossip is senseful. GOSSIP IS EDUCATIONAL.
Gossip is educational because it reflects what the society likely is. It represents what the people
are into and what interest them. One of the most trending gossip nowadays is the Aldub. A story
of Maine Mendoza who gets famous from doing dubsmash, met her celebrity crush Alden
Richards and now having a great chemistry together that makes the netizens go wild. What
makes them viral everyday? Is having a love team new to us? No. What makes them viral
everyday is because Kalye Serye not only gives us "kilig factor" but also preserves the moral
attitudes and standard of Filipinos in terms of treating a woman, effortful courting, and the
concept of Filipinas to be conservative. These are values imposed by Lola Nidora on our
generation, "everything happens perfectly if we don't rush things"
If we are going to look at this on a wider context, children nowadays ages 10-12 are already in a
relationship and this is alarming. Their age are supposed to be minding about their homeworks
and how to sneak siesta during afternoon to play outside not thinking of what to do to please
their boyfriends/girlfriends. In this, the celebrity gossip about Aldub responds to the social issue
about young children being inclined to things that are not appropriate to them.
Now it sounds more of a social concern right? And this just came from the context of gossip.
This shows that gossip is good. It is a reflection of yhe curreny standard of morality. It is an
exchange of ideas like any other conversation. When we gossip, we give valuable insights of
current social behavior, social culture and humanity. So if ever you want to talk about certain
issue, go! That's fine because what we are doing is an evidence of what kind of society we have
today and it is our duty to make it meaningful. :)
