CHAPTER-1
INTRODUCTION
Energy Meter reading noting is the very tedious work in Electricity supply system.
Person has to go door to door to note the meter reading of each customers Energy meter.
Thats why an attempt is done to make a Wireless Energy Meter. The project is aimed to
remove the tedious work of reading noting with the help of radio frequency. It is basically
a transmitter consisting of loads and receiver having the display for meter reading which
will be run with the help of Radio Frequency (RF). An RF module will be placed on the
receiver as well as transmitter. The RF module on the transmitter will be the RF
modulator and on the receiver will be RF demodulator. When the load is turned ON on
the transmitter PCB with the help of Relay, Relay driver IC, Microcontroller 89C51 and
buttons, the reading on the display at receiver PCB tells us about the Energy consumption
by the load which will be according to the microcontroller programming. The report
consists of a background into the area of Wireless and Energy Meter, how they are
connected to each other. So, this wireless project requires the construction of receiver
and transmitter units. The main intention of this project is to design a system in such a
way that the receiver unit which is placed at the electricity board office can get the
electricity consumption reading of the customer through a wireless radio frequency and
the bill of the customer can be prepared accordingly. The energy meter is an electrical
measuring device, which is used to record Electrical Energy Consumed over a specified
period of time in terms of units. Every house, small factory, business establishment,
shops, offices etc. need at least one energy meter to register power consumption. The
supplier of electrical raises the bill on the basis reading shown by this meter. The
producer of electricity sales the electricity to the electricity boards and boards have to
sale this energy to the consumer. Consumer needs to pay the amount against the bill
raised by the supplier. The data generate by the energy meter is the base to raise the bill
by power supplier. Because of massive rural and urban electrification programme of
Government, there is a good demand for this product. This product is available in single
phase and three phases at different current rating as per customer's requirement.

LITERATURE REVIEW

Radio or wirelessthere must be a big difference; they are spelled a little different. I hate
to disappoint and disillusion some of you who have counted so much on a big
difference. However, just brace yourselves and prepare for the shock: there is absolutely
no difference between radio and wireless except the spelling. Wireless does not mean
sparks, noise, or a lot of switches. Wireless means communication without the use of
wires other than the antenna, the ether, and ground taking the place of wires. Radio
means exactly the same thing: it is the same process. Communications by wireless waves
may consist of an SOS or other messages from a ship at sea or the communication may
be simply the reception of todays top 10 music artists, or connecting to the Internet to
check your email. It does not become something different in either spelling or meaning.
In February 1896, Guglielmo Marconi journeyed from Italy to England in order to show
the British telegraph authorities what he had developed in the way of an operational
wireless telegraph apparatus. His first British patent application was filed on June 2 of
that year. Through the cooperation of Mr W.H. Preece, who was at that time the chief
electrical engineer of the British Post-office Telegraphs, signals were sent in July 1896
over a distance of one-and-three-fourths miles on Salisbury Plain.
In March 1897, a greater distance of four miles on Salisbury Plain was covered with
wireless signals. On May 13 of that same year, communication was established between
Lavernock Point and Brean Down England, at distance of eight miles. In America, during
the period of 1890 to 1896, many students of science were in touch with the discoveries
made in Europe during this period; but it was not until 1897 that the utilitarian American
mind sensed the commercial possibilities of the advances being made abroad.

CHAPTER-3
PROJECT WORK
Energy meter is basically an assembly of electrical and mechanical components. The
design of energy meter depends upon which rating of current and voltage upon meter has
to work. The components like potential coils and current coils are to be designed in
accordance with customer's requirements. Other components like magnets, terminals,
Disc and reading registration mechanism are to be designed accordingly. All these
components fixed in housing and connection to be made as per circuit designed. Every
step needs to be checked, electrical parameters before sub assembly. Complete assembly
put on testing bench for final testing to set accuracy of the meter. This testing bench is
very important equipment fully computerized. In this bench we have to set power factor
frequency, current ratings and speed of rotating disc. When every electrical parameter is
checked than meter is to be sent for despatch and ready to install in the customer's
premises.

CHAPTER-5
CONCLUSION
The project Wireless Energy Meter has been successfully designed and tested.
Integrating features of all the hardware components used have developed it. Presence of
every module has been reasoned out and placed carefully thus contributing to the best
working of the Project. Secondly, using highly advanced ICs and with the help of
growing technology the project Wireless Energy Meter has been successfully
implemented. In European countries like Britain, France and some of Asian countries
like South Korea have achieved this technology of Wireless Energy Meter thus removing
the tedious work of noting of reading. Due to this achievement in technology this study is
presented to provide the most important feature called the low cost of preparing the bill
and also this can be helpful in preventing thee Electricity Theft which is a big problem in
India.
