W
hen Janet Graves was deciding
on a name for her new business,
a chic little clothing and acces-
sory boutique in Mount Kisco, she decided
on a name that represented strength, per-
severance and gratitude. She decided on
The Silcotts Boutique, naming it after her
mother.
Silcotts was my mothers maiden name.
Everything she learned she taught me,
Graves said fondly. You always have to go
back and say thank you. I mean without her
none of this would have been possible.
As a little girl growing up in England,
Graves remembers the first time she made
a garment, with the help of her mother.
I was seven. I remember how proud
I was of myself and how proud my mum
was. So this entrepreneurship was engraved
at me from an early age, she said.

dreamed of owning a boutique. She at-
tended the Fashion Institute of Technology

spending money on new clothes for herself,
she can pick up a little something for him,
joked Graves.
Graves tries to keep the shop stocked
with items that are economical for shop-
pers. The boutique carries all price ranges
in hopes of including as many customers
in the joy of buying that perfect outfit as
store is open seven days a week, but should
you want to have a more private experi-
ence, you can make an appointment and
enjoy a quiet shopping experience with a
personal stylist.
People are beginning to realize we are
here, Graves said. At least once a day
someone comes in and says, Oh. I didnt
