SCOPE
This specification establishes the units of measurement to be used on drawings and specifications
for projects using SI (International System of Units).

1. The following documents are referenced herein and are considered part of this specification.
2. Use the edition of each referenced document in effect on the date of the publication of this
specification.

DEFINITIONS
For the purpose of this document, the following definitions shall apply:
DesignerThe person or organization in responsible charge of the engineering design.
PurchaserThe Owner or the Owner's authorized agent.
4.0
GENERAL
1. Units of measurement shall satisfy law and statute of the prevailing governing authority.
2. Conflicts between the Purchaser Specifications and the applicable codes, standards, laws and
statures shall be submitted in writing to Purchaser for resolution.
3. Exceptions to the Purchaser Specifications shall be submitted in writing to Purchaser for
acceptance.

4. The system of units shall comply with IEEE/ASTM SI 10 unless otherwise specified herein.
5. Flow measurement units shall comply with API MPMS Chapter 15 unless otherwise specified
herein.
6. Designer shall be responsible to assure that units of measurement are consistent throughout the
project and in compliance with this specification.
5.0
SPECIFIC APPLICATIONS
5.1
Pipe
1. The SI equivalent of NPS (Nominal Pipe Size) is DN (Nominal Diameter).
2. The SI units for pipe shall be in accordance with ASME B36.10M.
3. NPS may be substituted with written acceptance by the Purchaser.
5.2
Pipe Fittings
1. The SI equivalent of NPS (Nominal Pipe Size) is DN (Nominal Diameter).
2. The SI units for pipe fittings shall be in accordance with ASME B16.9.
3. NPS may be substituted with written acceptance by the Purchaser.

Pressure
1. Pressure designated in terms of bar is an acceptable substitute for kPa.
2. Absolute pressure and vacuum in bar shall be designated bara.
3. Gage pressure in bar shall be designated barg.
