Bittman, Mark. "G.M.O. Labeling Law Could Stir a Revolution." New York Times 2 Sept. 2016:
A19(L). Opposing Viewpoints in Context
This article was found on Opposing Viewpoints in the Sinclair library database written by Mark
Bittman on September 2, 2016 from a New York Times newspaper. The purpose of this article is
to inform readers about the new law President Obama recently signed about the mandatory gmo
labeling. It tells readers that this law allows the manufacturers of gmo products to label their
products that are genetically engineered. The article poses the idea that the manufacturers may
manipulate this by finding ways to gently label the products such as using a toll free number to
call for more information on the product and not putting that its a gmo product straightforward
on the items. The author of this article has been a writer of food and cooking for the past 36
years. With that being said, it seems he is a good canidate for writing an article about this topic,
for he is passionate about it. This information is useful to me because it is current, active
information about the mandatory of gmo labeling process today. In this article the author has the
same standpoint as me and I can help it argue my point.

Cerier, Steven "Mandatory GMO Food Label Not Backed by Science | Genetic Literacy Project."
Genetic Literacy Project. 10 May. 2015. Web. 15 Oct. 2016.

This article was found on google written by Steven Cerier on May 10, 2015. The purpose of this
article is to inform readers why gmo labeling isnt necessary. The author claims that gmo
labeling isnt necessary because gmos have been in laboratories since the 1930s and they dont
pose any threat to the products. It also says how the FDA doesnt view gmo products any
differently than non-gmo products because gmos dont have a different safety or nutritional
factor than non-gmo products. Theyre saying its pointless to tell consumers whether genetic
modification has been done in the creation of the foods we consume. The author of this article is
an economist and businessman. He has written over 15 articles about gmos alone. He seems like
hes passionate with his work. I am going to use this article in my paper because he has the
opposite stance than me.
Food Fight: The Debate over GMO Labels Dir. Christopher Taylor. 2008. Film.
This film was produced by Christopher Taylor in 2008 in which you can find on the internet or
on Netflix. The purpose of this film is to make their audience aware of the controversial topic of
whether people should be allowed to know what foods have been genetically modified. The film
shows actual farms who use gmos and their standpoint about how they arent harmful. It also
shows a variety of people who beg to differ. Some people say how gmos are not natural and we
should be able to be aware of our foods containing them, especially corn, cotton, soybean, and
canola crops which are the most gmo containing products today. The film stands on my point of
view with lots of meaningful information I can use to support my cause, especially because it
shows you both point of views from people on each side of the topic.
McLure, Jason. "Genetically Modified Food." CQ Researcher 31 Aug. 2012: 717-40. Web. 15 Oct.
2016.

This article was found on Sinclairs online database using CQ Press Library, written by Jason
McLure on August 31, 2012. The purpose of this article is to inform readers about the pros and
cons of gmos and whether they should be labeled or not. They also explain that there could be
one environmental damaging aspect to gmos which is basically causing more weeds to form in
the areas of which gmo crops are being grown. It also explains that some countries ban gmos
completely, but on the other hand how the gene modifications have increased productivity. This
article gives both sides to the topic. The author is has written many pieces for places such as
Bloomberg News and The New York Times. This specific article of his is filled with graphs,
scientific data, and studies to support his information. With that being said I believe this will be a
good source of information for my paper because it has reliable information and it shows both
sides of the argument.
