Game for 2 players - Rules:

Students each get 6
counters and 2 6 sided
dice. Studens will roll 2
dice and make a fraction
by placing the smaller
number above the larger
number. They must place a
counter on the fraction.
The winner is the first to
place down all 6 counters
on the board. If you roll an
answer someone is
already on you can bump
them off

Have students work in

small groups of 5. Hand out
cards with varied fractions
on them and get them to
stand in the correct order
from biggest to smallest.
Explain that this will be a
race and they are to sit
down when they think they
are done.

As a class play Fraction

Race to Number. Model
how to play with the class
and discuss some
strategies. Answer any
student questions before
starting

collection of different
fractions, percentages
and decimals. Make
sure they each have a
match but are scattered
across the board. Get
students to find as
many matches as
possible in 10min. They
can use the same
number more than once
if they would like, for
example .25 + .25 = 50%.
Explain that students
can use a calculator to
assist them to find the
percentage or decimal.
Discuss some of the matches and how to check
their answers

Play a simular game to yesterday but this time try

to make combinations equal to 1.

Set a timer for the groups to organise themselves. Tell

students they will race to complete the task. Get
students to sit down in their groups when they think
they are done. get groups to explain how and why
they have ordered themselves. retrieve cards, shuffle
them and get students to try the task again and see if
they can do it quicker.

Explicit Teaching:

Discuss some answers and get students to

display and explain them on the board

decimal, fraction, percentage thinkboard. View

the example in resources. Fill it in as a class but
model how to do it on the board. On a piece of
blank paper students are to create their own
thinkboard using all the same techniques included
in the example. Have a fous group on the floor for
those needing assistance. (decimals get rounded
to the nearest hundred thousand).
