INTRODUCTION
The Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) is the largest
show of its kind within the Asia Pacific region. Its impressive list of international
exhibitors and suppliers is more than matched by the supportive presence of industry
elites, which range from senior Government officials, and military and civil delegates, to
industry movers and shakers and more. Held biennially since its debut in 1991, LIMA is
an ideal platform where industry stakeholders could engage and expand their networks
towards forging new partnerships and business agreements. Its insightful round tables
and conferences, as well as business forums offer access to invaluable information that
enables businesses to stay ahead of the competition and seize new opportunities in the
dynamic market of Asia Pacific.
LIMA began in 1991 with slightly over 100 exhibiting companies with the aim of
making Langkawi the venue for light and experimental aircraft to fly unhampered by
heavy traffic, modeled after the EAA Air Venture in the United States. LIMA has now
expanded into maritime exhibitions and is also one of Asia-Pacific's largest maritime and
air exhibitions. Nowadays, a four-hour flying display is held daily throughout the show.
The LIMA 2003 exhibition generated business totaling RM 2.182 Billion (USD 575
million) through 30 contracts, letters of offer and acceptance or intent and

memorandums of understanding. Next two year, LIMA 2005' witnessed a signing of


RM4 billion worth of contracts in maritime and aerospace items. That the amount
included defense contract RM3.2 billion. Major portion of the contracts sealed this time
was related to the purchase of A400M aircraft for the Royal Malaysian Air force which
amounted to RM2.8 billion including the equipment.
BRIEF THE OVERVIEW DESCRIPTIONS OF THE ORGANIZATION AND THE EVENT
STUDIED
The details about this event name The Langkawi International Maritime &
Aerospace Exhibition. The scope of this event focus on maritime & aerospace defense,
commercial and business aviation, shipbuilding and ship repair. This event occurred in
the biennial mean two years. In 2013 the exhibitors include, 433 companies from 31
countries join this event with the complete preparation and in 2015, the exhibitor
increase to 512 companies from 36 countries. The visitor also increase year by year. In
2013 the visitor 39,000 come and join the event and the 2015 the visitors increase to
39,684, with the increasing in visitors, this show the event can attract more visitors in
future with the new ideas about military and aerospace defense.
In this big event, many aerospace organization participate like 178 exhibitors
from Germany and 220 from abroad participated in the 11th edition of LIMA. Among
them are the National Aerospace and Defense Industries (NADI), Boustead Heavy
Industries Corporation (BHIC), Composite Technology Research Malaysia (CTRM),
Hitech Padu Berhad, Sapura Secured Technologies, Zetro Aerospace Corporation,
Ikramatic, Satang Jaya, MAS Engineering, Airbus, Boeing, Dassault, Gulfstream,
Embraer, Saab, Sukhoi, Eurocopter, AgustaWestland, Sikorsky, Bell Helicopter,

Fincantieri, Daewoo Shipbuilding, Navantia, DamenShipyard, Blohm and Voss, Lurssen,


Goa Shipyard and DCNS. The exhibitors try to come out with new aerospace product
like a total of 42 aircraft and 30 ships are present. Aerobatics and static done by aircraft
Gulfstream G45 Business Jet, Bombardier, Cessna Caravan, A400M, Su 30MKM, F / A18D, F-18 Super Hornet, MiG-29N, Super Lynx, Augusta A109, Mi 17 S & R helicopter,
Eurofighter Typhoon and Boeing AH6i.
About the maritime exhibition a total of 14 ships belonging to the navy and
commerce of 11 countries participate than 12 foreign ships in 2009. Royal Malaysian
Navy (RMN) featuring 10 ships, including a submarine while Malaysian Maritime
Enforcement Agency (MMEA) exhibit four vessels owned by APMM. Navy chiefs from
seven countries, eight deputy commander of the navy took part. Altogether 22
representatives of foreign countries present. This event co-organized by two popular
organization play the role like Ministry Of Defense Malaysia and EN Project SDN BHD.
There also have their support that try to give their best cooperate like Ministry Of
Transport, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Tourism and Culture,
Royal Malaysian Navy, Royal Malaysian Air Force, Royal Malaysian Army, Royal
Malaysian Police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Fire & Rescue Department
Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Customs. In this event also have several organization that
have collaborate with this organize like Malaysian Investment Development Authority,
Malaysia Industry Council for Defense, Enforcement and Security Department of Civil
Aviation, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, Malaysia Airports Maritime
Institute of Malaysia, Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia, Malaysia Ship
owners Associations.

It also have own their media partners that help them create awareness about this
event and can attract more visitors come and join this event. The media partners can be
divide into two firstly, official media and official show daily and secondly supporting
media. The example media partners like Asian Defense Journal, Asian Defense
Technology, Art of Defense (ARSMCOM), Defense Review Asia, Asia- Pacific Defense
Reporter (APDR), PERAJURIT, and many more.

PURPOSE AND TARGETING AUDIENCE


The focus or purpose of this event actually try to dedicated maritime and
aerospace exhibition for defense, civil and commercial applications and give change to
each country to improve and shares ideas about the military and aerospace defense.
This event also caused it to increase the capacity of countries in related fields. In the
others hand, this event also can reveal the latest technology from the developed
countries with military technology. Such events are also good for the local community
near the military equipment, the purpose of the equipment and how to use, so this will
add to the existing knowledge among the people in the country.
Indirectly, these events were able to accelerate the rate of foreign tourists coming
to our country and to improve the local economy.

The Government will take full

advantage of the 10th biennial Langkawi Inter-national Maritime Aerospace Exhibition


(Lima) to promote tourism in the country. In this event also tourists from overseas
tourists can also enjoy cultural performances are provided by the organizers and is able
to introduce Malaysian culture and customs to the international community

The targeting audience of this event those in the country and abroad who have a
hobby that involves new military technology, space security and maritime safety.
Through this event they were able to see advanced military equipment from each
country participating in the show. This high-tech equipment that may not be viewed by
close because this is an asset of a country that is very important. Beside, this event also
can attract audiences in nearest community and can make them feel closer to Malaysia
through cultural performances that will be provided by the organizers.

EVENT ENVIRONMENT
LIMA is the world's only maritime and aerospace show of its kind, offering visitors
a chance to get up close and personal with some of the most impressive aircrafts and
vessels across the globe. Combined with spectacular aerobatics, air and sea
demonstrations, and a host of other activities, LIMA is certainly one of the most exciting
exhibitions on the region's events calendar. LIMA had be held in two locations. Firstly,
the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) for the aerospace showcase and
secondly at Resort World, Langkawi for the maritime exhibition.
Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC). The Mahsuri International
Exhibition Centre (MIEC) is one of the largest exhibition and convention venues in
northern Malaysia. It is strategically located at the centre of Langkawi Island and is
approximately 30 minutes away from Kuah town. MIEC has been home to LIMA since
opening her doors in mid-1995. It boasts a built-up space of 22,050 sqm and a further
49,400 sqm of outdoor display area.

Resort World, Langkawi. The exhibition space adjacent to Resort World,


Langkawi is dedicated to the Maritime Exhibition of LIMA'. The purpose-built expanse
encompasses covered air-conditioned tents featuring an Elite Lounge, Food Lounge,
and multiple exhibition booths and pavilions, as well as an open space exhibition area
for large static displays. The Maritime Exhibition is also situated right next to a jetty,
making it an ideal location for impressive water displays and demonstrations. The
opening hours for LIMA 2015 at 17 to 21 March 2015 at 10.00am until 5.00pm for any
traders and public visitors.

ORGANIZATIONAL AND STAFFING ARRANGEMENTS


This event have many people that work in one group and cooperate with many
organization because it a big event for Malaysia especially to Pulau Langkawi. The main
organizer, EN PROJECT (M) SDN BHD based in Damansara Height, Kuala Lumpur
have done some quick decisions to appoint some of the parties to assist them in
providing post to manage this event would not happen so undesirable situation. In the
field of administration related to this event some experienced people from the EN
PROJECT (M) SDN BHD has been joined by several ministries such as Ministry Of
Internal Security, Ministry Of Tourism, Ministry Of Defense and others ministry.
Besides that, the organization has appointed a number of organizations that are
proficient in a specific field such as airport security and to ensure the event takes place
when there is no problem that cannot be foreseen involving travel on the air like Ministry
of Transport, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Tourism and

Culture, Royal Malaysian Navy, Royal Malaysian Air Force, Royal Malaysian Army,
Royal Malaysian Police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Fire & Rescue
Department Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Customs. They all try to make sure the current
program runs all departments in control.
Moreover, this event get collaboration with other external organization to improve
their credibility as good organizer. The organization that help them in this event like
Malaysian Investment Development Authority, Malaysia Industry Council for Defense,
Enforcement and Security, Department of Civil Aviation, Malaysia External Trade
Development Corporation, Malaysia Airports Maritime Institute of Malaysia, Association
of Marine Industries of Malaysia, Malaysia Ship owners Associations.

PROMOTION AND ADVERTISING


Advertising is an audio or visual form of marketing communication that employs
an openly sponsored, non-personal message to promote or sell a product, service or
idea. LIMA organizer use several ways to promote and create awareness about their
event and what their offering in the advertising it is attract intention whose see or hear
theirs advertising. The organizer choose the better promoter organization in Malaysia
and abroad. Like, Asia Defense Journal, and Asia-Pacific Defense Reporter. This
organization create many interesting way to create awareness about this program. Like
example, website promotion the organization create an official website telling about
details about schedule and important information.

Next, through mass media, many beautiful advertising with nice picture can
attract visitors to come and see the event. Through social media, on Instagram have
official fan page about LIMA event at this fan page visitor can share their photo and
caption about LIMA. Besides that, on Facebook also have their official fan page about
the new events and news update about this event. Then, the organizer also have done
a good job, they join many festival around the world to promote their event and explain
about the purpose the event. In this ways it help any question that have in visitor mind
about the events. Indirectly, all problem that comes in visitors can be briefly explanation
by the authorize representative.
EVALUATION
The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) has recorded an
outstanding success since held on tahun1991. Aerospace and maritime enthusiasts
from home and abroad is increasing every year since the first time held. The success of
this exhibition gained international recognition. This proves the ability of Malaysia
discharges involving energy exhibition and shopping very much. The government also
received support from large companies in the world aviation industry.
LIMA has started since 1991 again on the idea of former Prime Minister, Tun Dr
Mahathir Mohamad. Usually the LIMA exhibition will be held together with the show air
and sea by fighter jets and warships. For the aerospace segment, operated at the
Mahsuri International Convention Center while for marine segment held at Awana Porto
Malai. LIMA will also involve a number of contracts that will be signed by the MoU, MoA
and the LoI and transactions involving billions of ringgit. Usually involving the acquisition

of weapons for the armed forces include the Army, Navy and Air Force. This indirectly
can improve our national military assets.
In addition, LIMA give people an opportunity to not only be able to review the
size, design, equipment, speed and multi-use space ships and maritime highway. They
can also learn about the technology used in the construction of aircraft and marine
vehicles like the proverbial not know it was love. In conclusion, as Langkawi LIMA has
presented an exhibition center for space travel and maritime industry's leading Asia
Pacific. This success once the national economy and the ability of the state.
