SS2H1 The student will read about and describe the lives of historical figures in Georgia history. a. Identify the contributions made by these historic figures: James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove (founding of Georgia); Sequoyah (development of a Cherokee alphabet); Jackie Robinson (sports); Martin Luther King, Jr. (civil rights); Jimmy Carter (leadership and human rights). Brief Description of Learning Experience: Once we have finished learning of the historical figures within our standard, the students will in split into 7 groups and sign up for the person of their choice. Each figure will be presented. The students will gather information that we have discussed in class as well as information we have not included. The whole project will take about a week as the students research, collect their information. During this weeks time the students will be allowed to have use of any resources they would like: computer, textbooks, etc. Once the students have finished, they will present their project to the class as well as published their work to our classroom YouTube channel. Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: This would be in a LoTi level 5 since students engage in higher-level critical thinking skills as described by Blooms taxonomy of educational objectives, students are engaged in a two-way collaboration with peers, mentors, and/or experts beyond the classroom as they pursue their learning, and students produce products that ae interesting/meaningful to themselves and to other beyond the teacher, peers, and parents in their classroom. They share these products with an audience beyond their classroom. Importance of technology: This project could not be possible without technology and multimedia tools. The entire project is based around creating a video, so without it there could not be a project. For the students to create a movie of the historical figures, the students would need a computer to gather information and create the movie on. Internet Safety and Student Privacy: The parents of the students would be required to sign off on the parts of this project, with FERPA and CIPA. The project would have to obey the district, county, school, and personal teacher policies.
