ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION

In this modern era full of technological advancements, we live in a

world of luxury. However, hand-in-hand with this affluence is the arising
problem of environment pollution. According to the statistics, environment
pollution has now reached a critical level at a worrying peak and poses
several hazards to us. Environmental pollution can be defined as
contamination of Mother Nature.

One of the focal causes of environment pollution has been identified as

industrialization. This is a massive industry for nowadays, almost every piece
of land has a building atop of it. Industrialization occurs almost every second
of our lives, mainly due to the increasing number of human population. Thus,
houses have to be built to provide a shelter for people. Economically,
industrialization contributes to the countrys money flow resulting in frequent
new buildings. Most of the time, the planning is poor, resulting in the loss of
flora and fauna. The machines used in the process are not environment-
friendly but instead cause a rapid increase of foreign substances in the air.

Secondly, the transportation sector ranks as the second major cause

as it covers a whole range of vehicles. Transportation comprises of cars,
motorcycles, buses and lorries. These mode of transport are used on a daily
basis. Therefore, more harmful substances are released. Exhaust pipes emit
toxic gases such as carbon monoxide which pollutes the environment. Apart
from that, vehicles evoke lots of sound, leading to sound pollution which
disrupts the tranquility and quietness.

Thirdly, the steady increase of focus on the agricultural sector has

brought about negative consequences. In order to house new plants and
trees, deforestation occurs to make more room. Species of trees and plants
considered old and common are destroyed. Simultaneously, some landscapes
are modified to create a new pattern easy on the eyes. However, the lack of
hindsight in this development resulted in the crumbling of concrete. Some of
the concrete flows in the river. This triggers the irrevocable pollution of the
river. In the meantime, the aquatic living things are killed. The source of
proteins is terminated as many fishes die.

Another effect of environment pollution is the corroding of metals. The

occurrence of acid rains damages the balance of the ecosystem, endangers
human and ruins man-made materials and structures. For example,
limestone, marbles, and sandstone are easily dissolve by the acid rain.
Metals, paints, textiles and ceramics are effortlessly corroded. Acid rain
speeds up the process of metal corrosion, also downgrading leather and
rubber. This is a serious implication not to be taken easily.
Air pollution irradicate animals and plant life. The various
microorganisms co-existing in the air such as soot, smoke and dust particles
infiltrate the system of flora and fauna thus delivering a death toll. Besides
that, the clearing of forest for industrialization rocks them of their natural
habitat and food. Consequently, most of them do not survive, indirectly
affecting the ecosystem balance which is a severe damage indeed. Air
pollution can happen at a break-neck speed in a short period of time. So, we
must overcome it immediately.

Fog and haze are recurring phenomena which brings hazard to aircraft
and ships. During a fog or a haze, a persons vision is greatly obstructed and
everything in sight become ambiguous. When the sailors are unable to see,
they will inflict major complication on the passengers on board or vehicle.
Thus, the death toll will shot up causing a drastic reduce in the earths
population. The importance of sight cannot be denied. This has been proven
by the famous case in which involve the Titanic ship. The driver had crashed
into an iceberg which he failed to know. As a result, several hundreds of
people lost their lives within an instant. The ships suffered severe damage
and could not be fixed. Its first voyage was ironically is lost too.

Environment pollution jeopardizes human well-being. For example,

when global warming occurs and the temperature shoots up, humans fall
prey to microorganisms that invade the immune system. Therefore, many
people contract fever, cough and some may be unlucky enough to develop
most seriously diseases which are fatal such as pneumonia and eye
cataracts.

Water pollution which is caused by numerous chemicals and waste

discharges from factories and farms destroys the rivers completely. The
source of drinking, washing and cleaning no longer exists. Factories produce
tones of items per day which leads to infinite discharges such as arsenic and
mercury. Thus, the salmonella bacteria breed and transpire helps
complication. Water borne diseases also spread rapidly. Wastes from farms
dirty the river, indirectly dropping our standard as a beautiful country.

One of the ways to curb environment pollution is through preserving

forests. This is to ensure that plants and trees can grow freely. Forests should
be set up at appropriate areas as well. Secondly, close and thoroughly check
should be carried out at oil spill or operating factories to discharge
substances into rivers. The government must fine irresponsible people to
prevent further damage to the environment.

As a part of mother nature, we must be concern and care about our

environment. We should have the conscience to play our role in conserving
and preserving nature. The environment is a gift from God which cannot be
replaced once it is ruin. As a saying goes, You do not know what youll have
until it is gone. From now on, let us synergize for the good will towards the
environment we are blessed with. We must apply the knowledge we have
acquired for the green environment to stay beautiful.
