TITLE:
A Study of Management Perceptions of the Impact of Corporate Social
Responsibility on Organisational
Performance in Emerging Economies: The Case of Dubai
3. Relevant theories
Pava and Krauszs (1995) comprehensive review of empirical studies of the relationship
between CSR and organisational performance found that, overall, firms perceived as having
met social responsibility criteria have either outperformed or performed as well as other firms
that are not necessarily socially responsible.
4. Hypotheses
CSR initiatives have a positive association with employee commitment. Another
unexpected result of this study is the positive relationship between CSR and corporate
reputation. We reasoned that firms in emerging economies would not be able to benefit
from their CSR initiatives in terms of corporate reputation because of the lack of skills and
effective channels to communicate CSR activities to external stakehold- ers. We conjecture
that perhaps because of the small size of Dubai, firms are able to make their CSR initiatives
visible.
