Corporate social responsibility

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) refers to business practices involving initiatives that
benefit society. A business's CSR can encompass a wide variety of tactics, from giving away a
portion of a company's proceeds to charity, to implementing "greener" business operations.
For example, Google Green is a corporate effort to use resources efficiently and support
renewable power. But recycling and turning off the lights does more for Google than lower
costs. Investments in these efforts have real-world effects on the bottom line. Google has seen
an overall drop in power requirements for their data centers by an average of 50 percent.
These savings can then be redirected to other areas of the business or to investors.
Community service
Community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits others. It is
often done near the area where you live, so your own community reaps the benefits of your
work. You do not get paid to perform community service, though sometimes food and small
gifts, like a t-shirt, are given to volunteers.
For example, Participate in a charity race, volunteer to help at a charity auction, tutor children
during or after school and etc.

Difference between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Community Service (CS)
CSR
A CSR activity cannot be created to help out
an individual
Can only be done by a company/organization
The funds/goods given to the end user are
usually the beginning of the project which
empowers them to make a significant change
in their life

CS
Charity on the other hand can be an act of
giving to benefit an individual.
Can be done by an individual or a company
The funds/goods are given to an end user and
the giving stops at that level
