A. Professional Goals
Goal #1: I would like to further develop my classroom management
skills and my presence within the classroom.
o Rationale:I hope to be able to continue to develop my classroom
management skills, as it is an essential skill to have as it helps
to develop respect between teacher and student. It is also
essential in order to achieve goal #2 as there needs to be
mutual respect and understanding within the classroom in order
to help build a positive classroom environment and to help all
students succeed and achieve within the class. Clear
management and expectations leads to greater understanding
of consequences for their actions and ensuring that all students
are able to learn within the classroom environment.
Goal #2: I would like to build a positive classroom environment where
students can trust and respect one another and myself.
o Rationale: I hope to be able to create a positive classroom
environment for students in order to further facilitate learning
and so all students feel safe and respected. This will enhance
students willingness to work together and share ideas. Building
a positive classroom environment helps students learn and
achieve at a greater level and entices students to apply a
greater effort when they are engaged and willing to take risks
and try. I strongly believe that students grow leaps and bounds
when we use positive reinforcement within the classroom by
showing kindness, understanding, being a good listener, and
talking with students at their level to show that you are on their
side and have their backs in helping them grow and succeed.
Focusing on the students strengths, rather than their
weaknesses and praising them for the acceptable behaviour
helps to create a positive environment, rather than students
shutting down from always hearing negativity.
Goal #3: I would like to work on further developing my understanding
of the literacy skills and being able to incorporate literacy within the
classroom and within a core subject in an engaging way.
o Rationale: I hope to be able to find more resources and ways to
engage students in literacy activities in order to help students
succeed and further develop their literacy skills. Finding ways to
incorporate reading, writing, and speaking are especially

important, as they are essential skills for furthering their


education and their success in upper grades. I hope to research
and find a greater breadth of resources for literacy that are
enticing and engaging for students and get them involved in
their learning. I also hope to be able to share the resources and
activities created with others.
B. Strategies (How I will go about achieving my goals?)
Strategies for addressing Goal #1:
o I will provide clear expectations and will be firm to follow up with
consequences
o I will have clear consequences for actions
o I will discuss with students on an individual basis if issues
continue to arise to find meaning behind the behaviour and find
ways to help the student better manage their actions
o I will be consistent
Strategies for addressing Goal #2:
o I will try to get to know each student on an individual basis
o I will try to connect with students over their likes and interest
and find out what motivates them
o I will be real I will be me
o I will greet them everyday and will be available for them
o I will be helpful
o I will provide opportunities for students to learn about and get to
know one another
o I will provide time for them to share their ideas
o Everyone matters and has something to say
Strategies for addressing Goal #3:
o I will research to broaden my repertoire of resources for literacy
o I will try to find resources for varying abilities and interests
o I will try to create engaging lessons and activities for students to
work on their literacy skills
o I will base lessons and activities around student interests
o I will talk to the students and assess the students to see how
they are doing and to see what they are struggling with
C. Indicators of Progress Towards Goals
Indicators of Progress for Goal #1: Students are respectful with
minimal disruptions or concerns throughout each class. Students are
attentive when needed.
Indicators of Progress for Goal #2: Students communicate and
cooperate with each other. Students willingly share thoughts and ideas
and students listen to and respect one another.

Indicators of Progress for Goal #3: I am able to locate a variety of


resources for literacy and am able to asses improvements within
students reading, writing, and speaking skills.
