Step 1: Creating Vision and Planning for Assessment

1st Unit Plan - GOAL
All students will receive at least 80% mastery of weather; for
measuring and recording weather, the water cycle, and identifying
the three main types of clouds, based off of the common core
standards for 2nd grade.

1st Unit Plan Planning For Assessment

How will I measure my 1st Unit Goal?
Summative Unit Assessment that has questions from each days lesson. For instance:
how to read a thermometer, being able to label a water cycle, distinguish between
the 3 main types of clouds and know their characteristics, and be able to predict the
weather based off of the clouds and base clothing off of the season and temperature.
How will I measure progress toward the 1st Unit Goal?
Exit or Entry tickets/project
o Students will learn about different types of weather conditions and
will need to draw what the weather looks like.
o After learning how to measure and record the weather students will
be given a capital that they will have to record that cities weather
every morning and compare it to the city they live in. This is
something they will be doing every morning for two weeks. This daily
assignment will help assess the students progress with measuring
and recording weather data.
o For the water cycle the students will be creating their own cycle on a
plastic bag where they will make their own condensation and the

next day they will be in the computer lab working on a pixie to test
to see if theyre able to properly label the water cycle without any
guidance. This will all help them better learn and memorize the
water cycle and will be a clear representation of how well they know
it.
Every day after students learn about a new cloud they will be writing
down the clouds characteristics and definition in a foldable, they will
then recreate the cloud out of cotton balls.

1ST Unit Plan Big Ideas

Seasons- what type of weather happens in each season and different storms
that happen.
How to measure weather- they will be able to read and use a thermometer,
anemometer, rain gauge, and wind vane.
How to record weather- students will be able to fill in a blank thermometer to
accurately record the temperature.
Water Cycle- students will know that water travels in one big cycle through
evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection.
3 types of clouds: status, cumulus, cirrus- students will learn the
characteristics of each cloud and will be able to identify them.

have a quick review before the test.
This will be done through group
review where I ask them what weve
learned and the students can add off

teacher to make sure everything has
been covered, this will be added to
