Introduction
PRPC Personal Edition 6.3 SP1 provides a learning environment for a single developer. This
version of PRPC is fully functional, but performance is limited by the speed and memory of
your workstation.
Rules and applications you develop with the Personal Edition can be saved and moved to a
full PRPC system on 6.3 SP1 or later.

What Gets Installed?


Personal Edition installation includes:
Java Developer Kit (JDK) 1.6.0_27 (64-bit)
Java Developer Kit (JDK) 1.6.0_25 (32-bit)
PostgreSQL 9.1.6
Apache Tomcat 7.0.28

Prerequisites
Confirm that your workstation meets the following prerequisites.
Intel-based personal computer or laptop with at least 2GB+ of free RAM
running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows 7
8 GB of free disk space
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher

Installing Personal Edition


1. From your installation kit, download the appropriate Personal Edition ZIP file for
your version of Microsoft Windows and Vista.
PRPC_PE_win32.zip for 32-bit
PRPC_PE_win64.zip for 64-bit
2. Extract the contents to a directory on your workstation. The directory name
cannot contain spaces.
3. Double-click install.bat.
4. On the Personal Edition Installation dialog window, click Next.

5. On the Overview and Prerequisites window, review the information carefully


to ensure that your Personal Edition installs successfully.
Click Next.

6. On the License Agreement window, review the software license for Personal
Edition and its embedded third-party products.
Click Accept.

7. The Components to be Installed window displays. All of the install components


are pre-selected.
Optionally, if you do not want to automatically start PRPC when the installation
completes, clear the Launch PRPC checkbox.
Click Next.

8. On the Directories Selection window, you can browse for and select the
location of the directory where you want to install the Personal Edition.
Otherwise, it creates a PRPCPersonalEdition directory in your local directory.
Click Next.
Note: The directory you select must have at least 5 GB of free disk space.

9. The Port Configuration window displays the default port assignments that the
Personal Edition uses for the Database and Tomcat.

Click Check Port Availability to verify that the default ports are available. If there
are conflicts, enter a different port number and run the check again.

10. Click START to begin Installing PRPC Personal Edition. This process should
take 5-10 minutes.
A tree of install steps displays. The nodes on the tree track the progress of the
installation.

To monitor the progress of the installation, click Show Logs to display the
installation logging and/or error messages during the process.

Click Show Logs again to close the log display.


11. When the installation is complete, this confirmation window displays. Click OK.

Click Exit to close the installation window.


12. If you accepted the default post install process to Launch PRPC, the PRPC login
screen displays when the installation is complete and the application is launched.
If you did not select the defaults, see the Using Shortcuts to Start, Log in and
Shutdown Personal Edition section of this document for instructions about
launching the application.

13. Log in to the application as Administator@pega.com with a password of install


to verify you can access PRPC. The Designer Studio displays.

Note: Depending on your security level, one or more Internet Explorer Security
Windows may display to prompt you to install one or more ActiveX controls required by
the application, click Install. Repeat for each security window.

Now that you have installed your Personal Edition, use The PRPC Personal Edition Fast
Start Guide included in your installation kit to guide you through a tutorial that
demonstrates basic PRPC functions and features and provides hands-on instructions for
modifying and testing a sample application named ASupply.
The ASupply application allows employees of ACORP.com to submit purchase order requests
using their Web browser and automates the process of entering, routing, and approving
purchase orders.

Using Shortcuts to Start, Log in and Shutdown


Personal Edition
As you work with your Personal Edition, you can stop and start PRPC and the application as
you work through your tutorial. This allows you to free up the disk space used by PRPC and
the application when you are not using Personal Edition.
To do this, use the three PRPC shortcuts that were added to your desktop during the
installation.

PRPC 63SP1 Startup starts the PRPC application

PRPC 63SP1 Login opens the PRPC login screen

PRPC 63SP1 Shutdown shuts down the PRPC application

Starting Personal Edition


Use this shortcut to start the Personal Edition when it has been shut down or when the
Tomcat window is closed.
1. Click the

PRPC 63SP1 Startup shortcut to start PRPC.

2. The startup process is logged in a CMD window.


When the server has started and displays the message INFO: Server startup
in <nnnnnn> ms in the CMD window you can launch the login shortcut and log
in.

3. You can minimize the Tomcat window but it must remain open while you work in
Personal Edition.

Logging into Personal Edition


Use this shortcut to launch the PRPC signon screen after the server has started.

2. Depending on where you are in the Personal Edition tutorial, log on with the User
ID and password provided by the script.
3. Click LOG IN.

Shutting Down Personal Edition


Use this shortcut to shut down the Personal Edition server after you log out of Personal
Edition. This also closes the Tomcat window.
1. Click the

Uninstalling Personal Edition


When you are finished with Personal Edition, you can easily remove it from your laptop.
Before you remove it, you can package and save your work into a separate file to import it
into another application.

Save your work (recommended)


You can save the work you have done in Personal Edition.
Use the Application Packaging Wizard to export your developed PRPC application,
including work objects and data. Save the export ZIP file to a safe location.
From the Designer Studio, select the Application > Distribution > Package
landing page to start the wizard. For details about how to use the wizard, see the
PDN article Migrating Applications with the Application Packaging Wizard.

Backup your database (optional)

Close the Tomcat and logging windows

Remove the Personal Edition


1. Delete the PRPC Personal Edition program directory that was created during
the installation.
2. Delete the three Personal Edition shortcuts on your desktop.
