ABSTRACT

Pain is an upleasant feeling and individual, including sensory and emotional experience
due to actual or potential tissue damage. Lavender aromatherapy relaxation technique is a kind of
treatment that used essential oil to increase physical health, emotional, spirit and calm effect also
relieve the pain. This research was aimed to analyze the effect of lavender aromatherapy
relaxation technique to decrease the pain scale of laparatomy postsurgery patient. The design of
this research was Quasy Experiment with pre test post test nonequivalent control group design.
This research was conducted in the operating and postpartum rooms of Dr. Abdul Azis
Regional General Hospital Singkawang. The number of samples used were 32 respondents
which divided into 2 groups, intervention and control groups. According to the result of this
research, there is mean difference of pain scale in intervention and control groups where in

intervention group was 3.6875 with with SD 1.0878, and 4.6875 was the mean of pain scale of
control group with SD 1.0781. the result of t-test obtained value p=0,006 (p value<0,05). It
showed that there is an effect of lavender aromatherapy relaxation technique to decrease pain
scale of laparatomy postsurgery patient.
