Goal 1: No Poverty
As the aim of the goal 1 is to end the poverty in any forms and in anywhere,
there are 7 targets which this goal needs to achieve. Given the fact that as
many as 28.51 million people in Indonesia, or 11.13% of the total Indonesian
population are still living below the poverty line (source: Indonesian Center
Bureau of Statistics, September 2015) in which of the most are small-scale
farmers and workers in the agricultural sector, therefore, it is important for
the Indonesian government with the support from various parties to set a
strategy for poverty reduction program in Indonesia.
These are some of the targets from goal 1:
1.2. By 2030, reduce at least by half the proportion of men, women and
children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions according to
national definitions
1.4. By 2030, ensure that all men and women, in particular the poor and the
vulnerable, have equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to
basic services, ownership and control over land and other forms of 13
property, inheritance, natural resources, appropriate new technology and
financial services, including microfinance
1.5. By 2030, build the resilience of the poor and those in vulnerable
situations and reduce their exposure and vulnerability to climate-related
extreme events and other economic, social and environmental shocks and
disasters
In relation to the goal 1, Oxfam in Indonesia has been conducting various
programs for poverty alleviation which specifically targeted the small-scale
farmers. Here are some programs from Oxfam in Indonesia which correspond
to the targets above:
1. Actively support the farmers and fisheries in Indonesia to acquire the
justice on their production. This program has been done in the North
Kalimantan (Borneo) and Lampung Province with specific farming
industries in shrimp aquaculture and palm oil. In East Nusa Tenggara,
Oxfam in Indonesia also worked on the issue of the commodity
development of the virgin coconut oil
2. Ensure the farmers (both male and female) to secure the access and
control of the natural resources and production which support their
business. The program was conducted within the issue of the palm oil
commodity in West Kalimantan and North Sumatera, as well as the
seaweed commodity in South Sulawesi
between men, women and girls. The goal number 5 from SDGs covers 9
targets as follows:
1. End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere
2. Ensure womens full and effective participation and equal opportunities
for leadership at all levels of decision making in political, economic and
public life
3. Undertake reforms to give women equal rights to economic resources,
as well as access to ownership and control over land and other forms
of property, financial services, inheritance and natural resources, in
accordance with national laws
4. Enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and
communications technology, to promote the empowerment of women
5. Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the
promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and
girls at all levels
In relation to the goal 5 from SDGs, some programs which will and have
been conducted by Oxfam in Indonesia, specifically for the women
empowerment issues are:
1. Fight for womens rights to land
2. Support the womens access to the natural and productive resources,
such as the ease of access to credit loans and access to the technology
to support them, in earning some income
3. To promote the womens leadership in the value chain as well as the
decision making process in their own business
4. Acknowledgement to the womens small-scale farmers, e.g. Female

parliament members as well as the women government employees in
South Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara
6. Involving the womens group, the women parliament members and the

and East Nusa Tenggara in monitoring and evaluation of the SDGs
