District Judge Staci Williams Announces the Expansion of the Citizens' Civil

Academy to School Aged Children

Dallas, TX, November 22, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Judge Staci Williams, Presiding Judge of the 101st District
Court, announces the expansion of her free and non-partisan judicial outreach program, the Citizens' Civil
Academy. The purpose of the Citizens' Civil Academy is to educate citizens about the civil court process
and the inner workings of the George Allen, Sr., Courts Building.
Since its inception, the Citizens' Civil Academy has been focused on adults. Based on requests from
educators and parents, the Citizens' Civil Academy will now have special sessions in 2017 for school
aged children and young adults. Additionally, the Citizens Civil Academy will offer courtroom visits at
the George L. Allen, Sr. Courts Building.
Judge Williams notes, There are so many outreach programs for children on criminal law, the injustices
in the criminal system, mass incarceration and staying out of trouble. School children are frequently taken
to the criminal courts for visits, but not to the George Allen Courts Building. Through the Citizens' Civil
Academy, Judge Williams hopes to educate school age children about the civil court process.
In Dallas County, a civil district court may hear cases involving contracts, business disputes, motor
vehicle accidents, personal injury, property damage, wrongful death, and workers' compensation appeals.
There are separate civil district courts that handle exclusively family or juvenile issues. And there are
other state courts that handle civil issues such as probate, guardianship, mental health warrants, evictions,
and foreclosure.
Judge Staci Williams is the creator of the Citizens' Civil Academy. Judge Williams is a graduate of the
Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC , Smith College in Northampton, MA and The
Hockaday School in Dallas, TX.
