Aims For The Clouds
The Capitol Theatres hilarious retelling of Jack

and the Beanstalk promises to be full of fun and
loaded with laughs.
The Village of Merrydale with its wildly whimsical houses is the backdrop for a theatrical romp
that features a life-like cow, an Eco Fairy, the wicked
giant and his servant, smelly, creepy Stinkyball, and
Jacks ever-not-so-patient mom. Projected images
created by graphic artist Murray Kimber add extra
dimensions to this old English fairytale.
A Nelson tradition, the pantomime kicks off the
holiday season and brings all ages out to boo, cheer,
and laugh along with their fellow Nelsonites on
stage. Co-directors Pat Henman and Karen Agnew
have been putting all of the characters through their
paces since September. Choreographer Lindsay
Clague and music director Tyler James have been
working to ensure that all the actors from the sublime to the ridiculous shine. A mainstay of local
theatre, the panto is also an important fundraiser
for the Capitol.
People wait all year for the Panto, says Capitol
Theatre executive director Stephanie Fischer. The
production is always professional, entertaining, and
so much fun. From set designers and painters to
prop masters and costumers, everyone involved has
put in one hundred percent.
The Kootenay Coop is once again this years

Kaslos Deputy Government
Agent, before starting a family in 1964. Jack and Dorothy
formed their own road building
construction company in 1970,
Dorjack Contracting Ltd., which
they ran for over 20 years. Her
upbringing on a farm helped
to shape the way she raised
her family, living in Howser, BC
with a large garden and home
cooking. Dorothy had many

hobbies and interests including
gardening, rifle marksmanship,
reading, card games, and frequent vacation trips to Nevada
for the bright lights and entertainment. She was an amazing
leader and once ran a camp for
over 100 firefighters. Jack and
Dorothy built their dream home
on the shores of Kootenay Lake
at Schroeder Creek and lived
there some 25 years before
moving to Penticton in 2008, for
her health. A celebration of her
life will be held in the summer
of 2017, in the West Kootenay
near Schroeder Creek.

The Spirit Of Christmas In Slocan
The Spirit Of Christmas committee is preparing to celebrate the Village of Slocans third Christmas Tree Light
Up. This year we will have our celebration on Sunday,
December 4 at 6 pm in the Village square by the library/
wellness centre.
Each year the event grows with more people attending
to enjoy carolling around the fire pits, hot chocolate and
gingerbread cookies and especially Santa arriving on the
firetruck. We ask the children to bring a homemade ornament to hang on the tree as well as their letter to Santa. If
the letter is addressed to: Santa, North Pole, Ho Ho Ho
and they put their return address on it, they will receive a
letter back from Santa.
We also will take registration for anyone who wishes
to have their home/yard/business entered for the carolling wagon competition. We invite all who wish to sing
and do the judging from the wagon, to join us on Sunday, December 18, 6pm at the Slocan Legion, 502 Harold
Street. Everyone is most welcome to come and participate

Memorial Cash Spiel
The Kootenays premier Cash Spiel just got bigger. With

18 confirmed entries the Spiel has its largest field ever.
Entries are from the Okanagan, East Kootenay, West Kootenay and even Washington State, so it promises to offer
some fine curling for the fans.
The Bonspiel is being held at the Nelson Curling Rink
Friday, November 25 through Sunday, November 27. It is
free for spectators, so come down and watch some competitive curling. First draw is at 7 pm Friday night.
Many of the teams will have seen provincial level play
including Ducharme - Creston, Longworth Vernon, and
Houston Vernon. Last years winners, the Bob Ursel rink
continued their winning ways after the event by taking
the BC Seniors championship. Runner up team, Myron
Nichol also competed at the BC Seniors with a fourth
place finish.
The entry fee is $420 which includes a steak dinner,
teams are guaranteed five games and the total purse is
over $10,000.
