Teachers Letter to Parents

Dear Parent or Guardian of (Student Name),
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working
with your child this academic school year. My name is Mr. Sanchez and I will be your son or
daughters Freshman Spanish teacher. I received my Bachelors of Arts at Arizona State
University in Secondary Education, focused in Spanish. In addition to receiving my degree, I
have taken and passed both of the states NES tests in my content area and in professionalism,
giving me certification to teach. I love teaching high school Spanish because I am passionate
about the language and the Spanish speaking community. I believe that students can grow in
their understanding of the Spanish language in speaking, reading, and writing, developing skills
that will help them inside and outside of the classroom in future world scenarios. The main goal
of my course is to cover the fundamentals of the language. Over the course of the school year,
we will introduce our students to the wonders of Spanish vocabulary, verb conjugations, and
sentence structure. This will allow students to express themselves verbally and become more
knowledgeable about the Spanish culture.
Additional information about the class is provided in the course syllabus attached to this email.
Your child also received a paper copy to take home. Please read this syllabus with your child
and sign the last sheet of the packet in order to indicate your understanding and support of the
classroom system. There is a section on the final sheet where you can express any questions that
you may have, as well as comments or concerns. Students should return that sheet to me by the
end of the week.
If you have any further questions, comments or concerns, I am available for phone calls and
meetings each day before and after school, all by appointment please. To schedule a meeting,
you may contact me via phone (602-251-2500 Ext: 113) before or after school hours and via
email (ssanchez@smknights.org).
I am thrilled about working with your child and am looking forward to a great year. Once again,
if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Mr. Sanchez

Teachers Letter to Principal

Dear Mrs. Fessler,
I am contacting you to request an interview as a first year teacher at St. Marys Catholic High
School. My name is Mr. Steven Sanchez and I am seeking a teaching position as a Freshman
Spanish Teacher in your schools Spanish Department. I received my Bachelors of Arts at
Arizona State University in Secondary Education, focused in Spanish. Spanish is my native
language and I want to teach it because I am passionate about the language and about the
Spanish speaking community. In addition to receiving my degree, I have taken and passed both
of the states NES tests in my content area and in professionalism, giving me certification to
teach. While in college, I obtained quality teaching skills by attending several professional
development events and technology workshops on utilizing smartboards and other educational
technology apps for the general education classroom.
If given this teaching position at St. Marys, I would begin my work with a positive attitude and
would work hard to achieve the academic goals I have set for my students and myself in the
classroom. My goal for the academic year is to help the students understand the basic concepts
of the Spanish language, to begin expressing themselves verbally, and to become more
knowledgeable about Spanish culture. Besides the education portion, I hope to make a positive
impact in their lives by being a positive role model, in the faith and as a human being.
Furthermore, I desire to be involved with student activities and athletics that the school has to
offer. If the school does not have a Spanish Club, I would love to either start one or join the
other teacher who may host the current club. In this club, students can come in for tutoring and I
will offer presentations on Spanish speaking countries and their practices and traditions. There
will be what I call culture days, where students are invited to bring a dish of food from home
to share with their peers. This I believe will build a sense of community amongst the students. I
also have a profound knowledge in the game of football and would love to join the coaching
staff. I believe that the sport can form young men to be model citizens and grow in discipline.
Thank you for your time Mrs. Fessler and for this opportunity. Please feel free to contact me via
phone (623-363-1854) or via email (smsanch3@asu.edu). I look forward to hearing from you
soon.
Sincerely,
Mr. Steven Sanchez

Concerned Letter to Parents

Dear Parent or Guardian of (Students Name),
I am contacting you in regards to your child (Name) and (his/her) behavior in my classroom.
(Childs Name) is an exceptional student with great and valuable ideas to share with the other
students, especially during class discussions. Although, (Childs Name) has recently struggled
with ongoing conversation and talking with other students during classroom instruction,
unfortunately causing distractions in the classroom. I have asked (Name) to save the
conversation for after class in order to focus on the task at hand. (He/she) responded well the
first couple of times I asked, but it has now come to the point where I feel like I am being
ignored. The talking is constant and it is affecting the learning of other students who have shown
that they are unable to complete their work. This is also causing (Name) to lose points in the
participation category of the class. If this form of behavior continues, (Name) will lose (his/her)
participation points for the week.
In order to help with this issue, I am considering a rearrangement of the seating chart in the
classroom, placing (Name) in the front of the classroom next to my desk. I believe that by doing
this, (Name) will be able to continue participating since the students he will be away from are his
close friends. This being said, (Name) has the opportunity to improve and make up the points
(he/she) has lost in prior classes. By raising (his/her) hand to answer a question or make a
comment about the content being presented will help limit the behavior from previous class
periods. I as the teacher will call on (Name) to share (his/her) thoughts, giving an opportunity
for further participation.
As the parents or guardians of (Name), I would like to take this as an opportunity to further
discuss this issue and come up with a potential solution. I would like to hear your thoughts as
well and maybe discuss any other issues that may be causing (Name) to act in this manner. I
firmly believe that (Name) is an outstanding student and has much to offer (his/her) peers and
this world. Please consider working together to resolve this issue and help (Name) improve and
develop greater behavior.
Please feel free to contact me via phone (602-251-2500 Ext: 113) or via email
(ssanchez@smknights.org). I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Mr. Sanchez
