Skill/Teacher Cues

Anticipatory Set:
Introduction: Good morning you all, my name is Ms. Dupree
and I will be teaching you about Omnikin ball this week. If
you have heard of Omnikin ball before raise your hand.
Alright, very good, and if you havent played or heard of it
before thats ok, we are going to learn all of the skills and
strategies that we need to play it this week.

Throughout the week I will be

using the whistle to get your
attention like Coach Morgan, so
when you hear the whistle, put
any equipment you have at your
feet and focus your attention
towards me.

Transition
To start us off, we are going to play a game called railroad.
Instant Activity Instruction:
-

I will use the Omnikin ball as the train on the track.

You all will create the track.
You will have to lie down on the floor on your back
next to each other.
Once the train rolls over you, you have to get up and
run to the end of the railroad track so you can keep the
train going.
The object is to get the train back to this side of the
gym after going to the other side around the cone.
On my whistle, form a line on the ground using this
line that you are already in.

Remember to be aware of your

surroundings
Always run on the feet side of
your classmates, never by their
heads
Remember to demonstrate

Activity Description
Skill Instruction:
-

Today we are going to learn how to hit and hold the

Omnikin ball.

Hitting: There are two types of hits, the strike and the
push.
First demonstrate the push (all students stand up and
do the movement without the ball).
1. Elbows out
2. Palms forward
3. Push through
Demonstrate the strike (all students stand up and do
the movement without the ball).
1. Clap hands together
2. Swing back
3. Follow through

On my whistle, each team will practice hitting the ball

on their courts

Two team members will stand on this side of the court,

and the other two will stand on the opposite side. If
your team has five members, there will be three on one
side and two on the other.

You will take turns, to get the Omnikin ball in the air,
you will simply bounce it and then perform your hit.
Start of with the push, and when you feel comfortable,
switch to the strike. You must rotate hitting the ball.

After the students have completed the hitting portion,

demonstrate and implement the team holding technique later
in the lesson. (Explained in further detail in the skill practice)
-

Demonstrate the hold (all students stand up and do the

movement without the ball).
1. Kneeling statue
2. Palms up
3. Head down

Culminating Activity Instruction:

Skill/Teacher Cues
Remind students of safety rules

Each court will have two hula-hoops and two cones.

They will be set up like they are on this court (have
one court set up prior to instruction).
Each team will have to work together to score as many
points as they can.
Each hula-hoop made is 2 points
Each cone knocked down is 3 points
This time though, all members of your team must be
holding the Omnikin ball as we practiced, except the
hitter.
The hitter must then call out which target they are
trying to hit, hit the ball using one of the two hits we

how to alert the teacher if your
team has scored.
Remind the students of the skill

You must score points only on
your court. If your ball goes onto
another court, one teammate
should go to retrieve the ball.

practiced earlier, trying to score.

Example: OMNIKIN GREEN HULA-HOOP
If your team is successful, hold the amount of points
you earned up on your fingers until noticed by the
teacher.
Once the teacher gives you the thumbs up, the team
will grab the Omninkin ball and go back to the start. A
different hitter must then go, and the process will
repeat for the time allotted.
The team with the most points at the end wins
