VOLTAGE SELECTION
The voltage selector is located on the AC voltage selector box. If
adjustment is necessary, use a screwdriver in order to turn the
selector in either direction until the correct voltage figure is
displayed in the window next to the adjustment screw.

Active servo technology system


The Active Servo Technology System incorporates an active
servo Processing amplifier, which directly operates the speakers.
This greatly improves the driving and controlling forces on the
speakers. These exclusive active servo processing speakers
make possible, powerful bass playback with limited distortion,
and clear sound quality, even though they are compact in size.

H Proper use of the remote control


Aim the remote control at the remote control sensor within 30,
with no obstacles, and operate as shown.
Notes concerning use:
0 Replace the batteries if control distance decreases or operation becomes erratic.
l

Periodically clean the transmitter window oh the remote


control and the sensor on the main unit with a soft cloth.

0 Exposing the sensor oh the math unit to strong light can


interfere with operatton. Change the lighting or the direction
of the unit.
l

Keep the remote control away from moisture. excessive


heat. shock, and vibrations.

l The remote controts usable range is between


6 m (20) away from the sensor.

TUNER
(BAND)
The Intermittonal Telecommunicatron Unron (ITU) has established that member countries should matntarn etther a 10 kHz
or a 9 ktiz interval between broadcasting frequencies of any
AM station. The illustration shows the 9 kHz interval zones
(regrow 1 and 3). and the 10 kHz interval zone (region 2).
This product IS not equipped with a span selector. However. it
will be adjusted to either a 9 kHz or 10 kHz span when shrpped
from the &tory.
Before usmg the unit. check whetherornot the initral span is the
same span as used in your area, using the folIowIng method.

Plug the AC power lead into ah AC socket

2 Press the TUNER (BAND) button to select AM band


0 If AM 531 kHz is displayed, it means the radio is adjusted
for a 9 kHz span. If AM 530 kHzis displayed, It means the
radio is adjusted for a 10 kHz span.

To change from a 9 kHz span to a 10 kHz span:

1 Unplug the AC power lead from the AC socket.


2 Whilst holding
the TUNER (BAND) and POWER

buttons oh the main unit, plug the AC power lead Into ah AC 3


socket.
3 Press the TUNER (BAND) button to select AM band.

0 AM 530 kHz will be displayed.

Note:
0 To return the tuning span to9kHz. unplugthe AC powerlead
from the AC socket and then press the RESET button.

Cautions:
0 When the unit IS left for approximately two weeks after the
span has been switched and the AC power lead has been
disconnected, it WIII be automatically returned to a 9 kHz
span. If thts happens. set the span agaln.
@ When the span is switched, any stations that are memorised
will be cancelled.
0 When the unit has been already set to a 10 kHz span, It
cannot be swtched to a 9 kHz span.

0 When Lhhe AC power lead IS llrst connected, the clock


indicator will flash at TIME-ADJ.

4 Close the CD compartment by firmly pushing it.


0 The total umber of tracks and the total playing time will be
displayed for several seconds.

0 0the disblay. midnight is shotin as AM 12:Oo and noon


is shown as PM 12:OO. When senino the time, be careful
not to contuse AM with PM.

0 The music schedule will be displayed only for the number of


tracks on the disc.

3 Whilst holdingdowntheSHlFTbutton, press the SETbutton


and the press the TUNING/TIME button to adjust the
minutes.

0 If the compact disc contains 16 tracks or more, the b


indicator will light up on the mustc schedule.

l Hold down the button for more than 2 seconds to make the
time selling advance in 5 minute intervals.

5 Press the t c button to start playback from track 1

The hour setting will not change, even if the minutes


advance from 59 lo 00.

To interrupt playback:

4 Whilst holding down the SHIFT button, press the SET


button.

9 Press the II button on the remote control.

To switch the unit off after use:

0 In the event of a power failure or when the AC power lead is


disconnected, the clock display will go out.
When the ACpowersupplyis resumed, theclockdisplaywill

If a compact disc is already Ithe CD compartment, whether or


not the power is on, and eveif the input mode position is not

Precautions:
0 DO not open the CD compartment whilst the disc is rotating.

Remaining playing time for first track

0 If the disc is damaged, dirty, or loaded upside down, the


display will show error signs as follows:
- NO DISCor ERROR is displayed.
Clean. replace. or load the disc properly.

If TV or radio interference occurs dunng CD operation,


move the unit away from the TV or radio.

Subtecting the unit lo shock or vibration can cause


mistracking.

Playing some compact discs at high volume can cause


mistracking. In this case, listen at lower volume.

prepare for programmimj.

A. For example, to choose selectlon 12

(1) Press the +lobutton.
(2) Within 3 seconds, press the 2/Y button.

B. For example, 10 choose selecfion 20

3 Use the track number input buttons to select the desired


track number.

l The programmed playback order and the total playing time
of the programmed tracks WIII be automatically dlsplayed,
and only those track numbers will appear in the music
schedule.

(1) Press the +lO button.


(2) Within 3 seconds. press the +lO button again.
(3) Within 3 seconds. press the O/lo button.
2 The beginning of the selected track will be found and play
WIII begln automatic+ly.

0 If the total playing time of the programmed tracks exceeds

programming, hold down the SHIFT button, and than press
the PRGMICLEAR button when the PROGRAM Indicator
flashes.

Note:

APSS will move toward orbackward from any point on the disc

3 To cancel a programmed sequence, hold down the SHIFT


bunon, and then press the PRGMKLEAR button whilst the
disc is stopped and the PROGRAMindicator is lit.

0 Opening the CD compartment automatically cancels the
programmed sequence.

Each time the TIME button IS pressed during playback. the


display will change as described below.

0 When the TIME button is pressed in the stop mode, the total
number 01 tracks and the total playing time of a CD wll be
displayed.

l During random play, the elapsed play time for each track will
be displayed. and the display cannot be switched.

l Depending on the CD, the contents to be displayed may not


match because the time between tracks is not included in
the play time which IS indicated on the jacket.

DISASSEMBLY
Caution on Disassembly
Follow the below-mentioned notes when disassembling the
unit and reassembling it, to keep its safety and excellent
performance:
1. Take cassette tape and compact disc out of the unit.
2. Be sure to remove the power supply plug from the wall outlet
before starting to distissemble the unit.
3. Take off nylon bands or wire holders where they need be
removed when disassembling the unit. After servicing the
unit, be sure to rearrange the leads where they were before
disassembling.
4. Take sufficient care on static electricity of integrated circuits
and other circuits when servicing.

W How to unlock the mechanism lock


1. Remove the left and right panels.
2. Push the plunger in the direction shown by the arrow, using a
slender screwdriver (3 mm dia., 130 mm long). (It will click.)
(Fig. 12-I)
3. When a screwdriver (or other thin probe) is inserted in the
clearance next to the relay PWB and the flywheel is turned in
the direction of the arrow, the head will go down and the
cassette holder can be opened. (Fig. 12-2)

Perform steps 1,2,3 and 7 of the disassembly method to remove


the tape mechanism.

Main/FF, Rewind Belt (See Fig. 12-3.)


1. Remove the main belt (Al) x 1 PC., from the motor pulley.
2. Remove the Mewind belt (A2) x 1 PC., from the drive gear.
3. Put on the belts in the reverse order of removal.

Note:
1 .When putting on the belt, ascertain that the belt is not twisted,
and clean it.

1. Remove the screw (Cl) x 1 PC., and remove the solder joint of
thesolenoid(C2)~2pcs., andthen removetheTapeMechanism

1. Remove the drive belt.
2. Remove the stop washer (Dl) x 1 PC., with a small precision
screwdriver to extract the flywheel from the capstan metal.

1. When the stop washer is deformed or damaged, replace it with

Button Operation in CD Test Mode

1. When the STOP n button is pressed, all operations stop. At this time the optical pickup does not slide, and CD TEST MODE 0 is
displayed.
2. While the UP w I DOWN w button is pressed, the optical pickup moves from inside to outside or from the outside to the inside.

is possible both during playing and stopping.
l While this operation is executed, the CD TEST MODE indication does not change.
After the optical pickup is slided from the outside to the inside and the optical pickup switch is turned on, the slide stops. (At the same
