of how it is used in this chapter with the use of the term in the software
and application development industry.
b. Obtain the Annual Report of a Fortune 500 corporation and list potential
EA components at each level of the EA3 Framework.
Answer:
1. EA components are the active elements of the enterprises business and
technology operating environment. The relationship between EA
components and EA Framework is, an EA Framework provides an
overall structure for modeling the enterprises business and technology
operating environment, while an EA components are the working elements
of the framework at each level. In other words, EA components are
building blocks of EA framework that create discrete parts of the overall
IT operational capability.
2. EA artifacts are types of documentation that describe EA components,
including reports, diagrams, charts, spreadsheets, video files, and other
types of recorded information. A home architecture analogy is often used
to illustrate the relationship between EA components, and EA
artifacts. EA components are like the rooms of the house. Rooms can be
added, remodeled, or taken away. While EA artifacts are the descriptions
of each room, and can include statements, stories, pictures, and/or videos.
3. The parts of an enterprises Strategic Plan could be viewed as EA
components are Strategic Plan (Strategic Goals, & Initiatives) and
E-Commerce/E-Government Plan. Why? Based on the meaning of EA
Components, EA components are the active elements of the
enterprises business and technology operating environment
which include IT related strategic goals and initiatives, supply
chains, information system software application, etc.
E-Commerce/E-Government Plan is more like a tactical plan due to the
dynamic nature of IT resources and the processes they support. Ecommerce/E-Government Plan will identify the various IT-related
initiatives that may enable of an enterprises strategic goals.

A strategic plan is a high-level policy and planning document that an

enterprise use to document its direction, competitive strategy, most
important goals, and the enabling programs and projects (strategic
initiatives).

services.
Information flows, applications, and networks is plug-and-play resources
that may extend enterprise-wide or be contained within a specific line of
business or segment. The components are several elements of enterprise
IT operating components/ IT resources that will support the enterprises
business needs.
5. The EA should draw on accepted international, national, and industry
standards in order to promote the use of non-proprietary commercial
solutions in EA components. This in turn enhances the integration of EA
components, as well as better supporting the switch out of components
when needed. It also can provide some level of flexibility while at the
same time ensuring compatibility across the enterprise. Standards may
indicate an architectural direction.
6. Elements of a security and privacy program can be viewed as EA
components is security solutions. Why? Because the security
solutions description provides a high level view of how security is
provided for selected resources throughout the enterprise. The security
solutions is a solutions for the protection of IT resources active in the
business and technology operating environment. The solutions cover four
dimensions of security are Operational Security, Data or Information
Security, Personnel Security, and Physical Security.
