Javaid, A. (2016). Feminism, masculinity and male rape: bringing male rape 'out of the closet'.

mmmmmJournal Of Gender Studies, 25(3)

In this article, Feminist writer Aliraza Javaid writes about how male victims of sexual assault
and rape victims have been widely ignored from the research of rape victims. The role of
feminism is played because feminist view this topic equally. It is stated that this topic is ignored
because the image of masculinity is so respected and highly viewed that many men victims do
not come forward when they have been sexually assaulted. This article stresses the importance
the topic of rape should stop being viewed as a womens issue and more as a society issue that
does not necessarily have a gender title. This article relates to my question because it shows how
society views and treats male victims.

Javaid, A. (2016). Voluntary Agencies' Responses to, and Attitudes toward Male Rape: Issues
//////////and Concerns. Sexuality & Culture,20(3) 731-748

This article is about the male survivors of rape in England and Wales and the attitudes towards
male rape victims survivors of rape. This article also talks about the lack of attention men rape
victims are given This article provides statistics of how many men are sexually assaulted. In
Wales England, approximately 900 men are victims of rape in Wales alone. It is also explained
how the definition of male rape by law in the UK is a man raping a man, women are seen as
incapable of raping a man; however, this article includes discussion and research evidence of
women who rape men. Some male survivors who do try to get help dont always get it, voluntary
agencies that are designed to help female survivors are picky when it comes to helping and
listening to male rape victims because of the scarcity of the topic. This article shows how many
men are denied help within a society

Tewksbury, R. (2007). Effects of Sexual Assaults on Men: Physical, Mental and Sexual
-=====Consequences. International Journal of Men's Health, 6(1), 22-35.
This article is about how men are affected physically, and mentally when they are sexually
assaulted. There wasnt research about male rape until the early 1980s prior to this time most of
the sexual assault/ rape literature that was available focused on female victims and survivors.
This article provides a concise overview of the different consequences that may be experienced
by the male victims who are sexually assaulted and how this effects their everyday lives. In Los
Angeles CA 7.2 percent of men reported at least one instance of sexual assault after the age of
15. Most of the male sexual assaults happen to children and many young boys who were sexually
assaulted as kids were later assaulted as adults. Men who are sexually assaulted seek mental
health services frequently do not do so until much after the assault actually happened. One of the
physiological effects include denial; many men who lack serious physical injuries they deny
victimization. This shows how men are later affected emotionally and physically and how that
affects their everyday life.

Rumney, P. S. (2008). Policing Male Rape and Sexual Assault. Journal Of Criminal Law, 72(1),
-------------67-86.

This article is about the issue of male rape that has been largely ignored within the criminal
justice system, the treatment of adult male rape and sexual assault complainants by the police.
Research of male rape has been increased significantly since the 1990s. There is a problem in
the context of the treatment of male victims who have reached out for help from the criminal
justice system. There is evidence that the treatment of police towards the male victims who asked
for help was bad. It is stated that police officers rarely believe the male victims. The men
assumed to be homosexual or not being manly enough to fight the attacker. Some victims even
say the treatment they get from the cops is worse than the actual offence. The Metropolitan
Police Sapphire project emphasizes support for all victims of rape and offers important
information for the victims and their family for example support groups. These types of groups
debunk male rape myths like male rape is a gay crime and that male rape doesnt happen,
some victims of male rape report aggressive questioning by police. This shows how in a society
even police who are there for societies aid treat male victims.

Lowe, M., & Balfour, B. (2015). The unheard victims. Psychologist, 28(2), 118-121.

This article explains how sexual abuse of men do not receive adequate support or worse
do not receive support at all. The article also explains how men live in fear coming forward
because sexual assault in males is known to be uncommon and impossible. This leads to the male
victims not coming going to the police or getting help and this can lead to serious psychological
defects in their later life. This shows how society makes the male victims feel about coming
forward and how frowned upon it seems.

Miles, G. M. (2016). Where are the Boys? Where are the Men? A Case Study from Cambodia.

This paper is about a young man who was trafficked along with other young men into
Egypt and how he was sexually assaulted multiple times by a woman. Many cases of young men
being trafficked are not considered because many of them are hard to believe. This shows how
society should give attention and help these victims as much as society helps and talks about
female assault etc.

Hequembourg, A. L., Parks, K. A., Collins, R. L., & Hughes, T. L. (2015). Sexual Assault Risks
=====Among Gay and Bisexual Men.

This article explains how gay and bi sexual men are sexually abused victims and how
they are looked down upon and at higher risk at being assaulted reason being because they are
gay. Many males who identify themselves as gay or bi sexual have been victims of rape and are
either ignored, or don't say anything at all. They stay quiet because they're afraid they're not
credible or, they are ignored because they are gay or bi. This article shows how negatively
society views and treats male victims based on their sexuality.
