INTRODUCTION
The Lexus Design Awards is an annual event that showcases the worldwide range of
latest exploration in Design profession. This semester, you are required to set your
design project to follow the requirements of this competition to enables you for
acknowledging the environment of a professional design activity.
LEXUS DESIGN AWARD 2017

First launched in 2013, the Lexus Design Award is an international design
competition that targets up-and-coming creators from around the world.
Imagination, Craftsmanship and Design has always been a fundamental part of
Lexus brand. At Lexus, we believe in the power of creativity to change the world and
build a better future. The award seeks to foster the growth of ideas that contribute
to society by supporting designers and creators whose works can help to shape a
better future.

SCOPE OF WORK
You are required to start with proposing the area where you should be covering will
start with a research activity on your selected category. The design work will take
part after the research process has been completed to identify the design
opportunity area, the market segment, the user profiling, the compatible
technology, and the point of innovation to be proposed.
REQUIRED PROGRESS
Throughout the session, you are expected to perform through the following phases:
1. Conduct a Research for Analyzing Current Issues Within The Society
and perform a study over potential area of focus using various methods
accordingly (Observation, Questionnaire, Interview, Literature Study) and
elaborate the impact of the focus area to the society / current practice, to be
developed into a project. This phase will require to be presented as your
projects starting point.
2. Selecting 2 or more Categories from the provided list to be used in
combination as a Focus Area of your research study. At this point, you will be
required to produce an alternative solution using a combination of two or
more categories to be formulated into a new principle of solution.
3. Propose a Product / Furniture / Transport type for establishing
direction, and define the objectives and justification for proposing the product
type.
4. Conduct a Research On Target User And Environment to obtain a
more specific result, and formulate the findings into a set of design
development plan.
5. Propose a Design Of Specific Product / Furniture / Transport
Systems, with reference to the findings from the research result.

6. Develop Idea Sketches to guide the integration of form, function, and
usability.
7. Develop an Evaluation Mock-Up, and conduct a Set Of Testing On Its
Proportion, Functionality, And Usability.

8. Refine the design into final, and Develop A High-Detail Mock-Up to
represent the Product / Furniture / Transport Systems for Final Assessment.
FINAL DELIVERABLES
1. Presentation Poster
Systematic description over the project process, highlighting the following

Research Output and Findings
Proposed solution through design
Propose product usage and Product Environment

Final Rendering
2. Research Report
A compilation of process conducted from the beginning of the session until the
final proposal
3. Book of Progress Sketches and Technical Drawing
Bind format of selected sketches and Design developments, with attached
Technical Drawing of the proposed design.
4. Evaluation Mock-up
Development mock-up, used to analyze Technical and Usability aspects over the
proposed concept
5. Final Presentation Mock-up
High Detail Mock-up to represent the form, function, and usability of the
proposed product concept. Scale size of mock-up will be determined accordingly,
prior to design approval stage.
