Function

Atrium
Heating panel

When warm air passes through the copper pipe heat

is transported out to the aluminium plate with very little
temperature loss. Atrium becomes warm and radiates heat
into the room. It is mainly the floor, walls and furnishings
in the room that are heated. The temperature of the room
surfaces become higher than the room air and thereby give
off their heat to the air. Through primarily heating the rooms
surfaces instead of the air a great deal of energy can be
saved.
Heat radiation passes the air over tens of metres without
output loss on its way to the floor and walls. In this way
you avoid heating a large air mass, which when it is warm,
positions itself by the ceiling. Instead the heat is where it
is most needed.
A more detailed description of how ceiling heating works
can be found in the Lindab Climate Ceiling Heating Guide.

Atrium is available in
three different widths.
All with the same low
inset depth 60 mm.

Design
The Atrium design is based on a world patented method
of joining a copper pipe with an aluminium plate.
The aluminium plate is metallurgically bonded with the
copper pipe (the material has partly fused together under
very high pressure). Due to this the energy transport
between the pipe and plate is extremely efficient. The
shape of the copper pipe is rhombic, which means a
turbulent flow is obtained quicker than with a round pipe
and ensures a very good heat transfer even at low flow
rates.
The top side of the panel is insulated with extruded
polystyrene cellular plastic. Cellular plastic is manufactured
without the addition of CFC or HCFC gas, i.e. freons.
Atrium 3

Models
Dimensions: Atrium is available in three widths 330
(width 33), 600 (width 60) and 870 mm (width 87). Width
60 is adapted in size, -8 mm, in order to be mounted in
suspended ceilings using standard T-bars with a modular
measurement of 600 mm. The depth is always 60 mm.
Lengths: Atrium is produced in lengths from 1.8 m to 6.0 m
in steps of 0.6 m.
Water connection: Atrium is available with four different
connections depending on the width of the product 10,
12, 15 and 22 mm. This is to allow the pressure drop to be
adapted with different dimensioning instances.
Joining: Atrium can be joined in lengths over 6 m. The
overall length is stated at time of order.

1

Surface finish: Atrium is powder coated as standard in

NCS 0502-Y/RAL 9010, gloss value 30.

Plus features
Wall connection option, fig. 1: Connection cover to
conceal visible pipe routing to the wall or between panels.
The length is stated when ordering.
Perforated, fig. 2: Perforated chilling panel gives increased
sound proofing in the room.
Bevelled edge, fig 3: Our bevelled PQR edge is used to
give a softer transition between the ceiling and the panel.

2

Hygiene design: Atrium is available for buildings with

very high hygiene demands with the top side covered
with aluminium and the joints are sealed using jointing
compound. The panel can then be disinfected or rinsed.
Direction of connection pipes: Atrium is available with
vertical connection pipes.

Installation examples
Atrium can be installed in three different ways: surface
mounted, suspended or recessed mounted in a suspended
ceiling. Securing plates are used when surface mounting
and when the panel is recessed mounted in suspended
ceilings supports rods should be used.
NOTE! To ensure expansion factors are taken into
consideration when surface mounting, e.g. pipes between
panels or pipes with fixed connections should be fitted
with an expansion loop. See table page 9.
Support rods are recommended in suspended ceilings.

Recessed mounted, support rods.

Surface mounted using securing plates.

Suspended installation using adjustable drop rods.

Pressure drop (kPa)

If the recommended minimum

flow is maintained the air
becomes agitated and the water
becomes turbulent. Atrium then
requires no separate bleeding.
Bleeding of the coolant system
takes place as normal at the
highest points and in the
apparatus room.

Control

Colour

Fig. 1 A common method to control the heating effect, via

an outdoor compensated shunt group, is flow control with a self-acting two-way valve. Of course, the
two way valve can also be controlled by the Lindab
Climate controller.
Fig. 2 If the shunt group only supplies one room with heating strips the heating effect can be controlled by just
the shunt group via a room thermostat.

Atrium is powder coated as standard in NCS 0502-Y/RAL

9010, gloss value 30. Other colours can be specially
ordered.
