Radial chromatography

= Radial chromatogaphy is a form of chromatography, a preparatory technique for separating

chemical mixtures.

=Radial chromatography is a technique used to separate mixture of compounds. It is

composed by a stationary phase which is normally a silica gel, aluminum oxide or cellulose
immobilized in a circular plate. A liquid phase which is the solvent that moves the compound
by the stationary phase.
=Often a mixture contains two or more materials that each have their own

color. These colors can be hidden when the mixture is formed. In this
experiment you will use a technique called radial chromatography to
study the colors found in magic markers. A common device used for this technique is
a Chromatotron.
= It is a common technique for isolating compounds and can be compared to column
chromatography as a similar process.
