SPEAKING PROJECT MAKING A PSA

A public service announcement (PSA) warns people to stop a bad behavior or encourages them to have
healthy habits. Next Monday or Tuesday, your group will research, write, perform and film a PSA (public
service announcement). You will get ideas for your PSA by watching some examples. Then you will work
with your presentation group to develop your own PSA ad campaign. Each person in the group will create
their own PSA around the same ad campaign topic.
Step 1: Understanding Examples
You will watch four PSAs and answer some questions about them. Dont worry if you dont understand

With your group, make a list of some possible ideas for a PSA. How many ideas can your group come up
with? (5 minutes)
Stop a Bad Behavior

Encourage a Healthy Habit

Ex. Dont smoke

Ex. Wash your hands

Step 3: Choose Your Topic

Choose one of the ideas from the list you just made. Your group will make a PSA (or Public Service
Campaign with multiple PSAs) about that idea.

Step 4: Do Research
Most PSAs contain facts or statistics. For homework, each person in your group should use the internet to
find three facts or statistics about your topic. Write the website address and your statistics below:
