Biodiversity is the variety of species that reside in a biome or environment. Biodiversity

is constantly being affected in negative ways by our local environments, and something must be
done about it. Biodiversity is important because it is dependent of the productivity of an
environment and because every species in the environment plays a role if you kill one off the role
will no longer be fulfilled. Lets look at some of the ways biodiversity is being affected and how
we can stop it.
Most diversity loss is caused by human interactions in the environment. Today
biodiversity is decreasing at 1000 times the rate as before. Deforestation is one of the largest
environment killers because it destroys the homes in which many species of animals live and
make it nearly barren of life. Overpopulation can also cause biodiversity loss because it pushes
more and more humans into habitats. With growing amounts of people more space must be made
to house these people causing environmental destruction. With a population growing up to 9
billion by 2050 biodiversity will only continue to worsen as we use more and more resources.
In order to preserve our environments there are a few things we can do. We can protect
our environments through more sustainable ways to make paper or furniture without uncommon
wood. And we can also lessen overpopulation in order to decrease human over expansion. We
also need to become for mindful of the resources that we use and how they affect our
environment. Many of the resources we use may also be invasive species which can also cause
biodiversity. Some products that we use are labeled as organic or sustainable and we should look
out for these labels and be more mindful. One of the most well known labels made by the USDA
is the USDA Organic label. Products with this label are made with 95 to 100% organic

ingredients. Crops under this label are made without conventional pesticide while animals are fed
organic food.
In conclusion, Biodiversity is important to us because it creates the environments that we
have lived and sustained from since our existence if we want to keep our environment and the
variety of resources it gives we must protect these environments in the name of biodiversity.
