KYLE STARK DIRECTOR OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Kyle Stark enters his third season as the Pirates Director of Player
Development after being named to his position on Nov. 7, 2007. Prior
to joining GM Neal Huntingtons staff, the 30-year-old spent four years
in Clevelands Baseball Operations department. A native of Bradford,
PA, Kyle is a 1999 graduate of Ball State University and received a law
degree from the University of Toledo in 2002 and a masters degree in
Business Administration from St. Bonaventure University in 2004.

GREG SMITH DIRECTOR OF SCOUTING


Greg Smith was named the Pirates Director of Scouting on Nov. 7, 2007. Smith
had spent the last 16 years in scouting, the last 11 coming in the Detroit organi-
zation, and the last three as that clubs special assignment scout. Greg was the
Tigers Scouting Director from 1997-2004, overseeing the draft and international
scouting. Smith was also a Padres area scout from 1990-96. As a player, he
played three seasons in the Padres system after graduating from Vanderbilt.

JEFF BANISTER FIELD COORDINATOR


Jeff Banister is in his eighth season as the Pirates Minor League Field
Coordinator after spending the previous four years as the Field Coordi-
nator at the Major League level. The 2010 season marks Banisters 25th
with the Pittsburgh organization. Jeff was originally selected in the 25th
round of the 1986 draft. He made his major league debut and only ma-
jor league appearance on 7/23/91. Banister was born in Weatherford,
OK on 1/15/1965, and currently resides in League City, TX.

KIMERA BARTEE OF/BASERUNNING COORDINATOR


Kimera Bartee is in his third season with the Pirates organization after
three years as a coach at Class-A Delmarva in the Orioles system.
Bartee played 12 years of pro ball, including 243 games in the major
leagues with Detroit (1996-99), Cincinnati (2000), and Colorado (2001).
The Omaha, NE native played college baseball at Creighton, where he
played in the 1991 College World Series. The 35-year-old was originally
selected by Baltimore in the 14th round of the 1993 June Draft.

JIM BENEDICT SPEC. ASST. TO GM/PITCHING COORDINATOR


Jim Benedict is in his first season as the Pirates Minor League PItching
Coordinator after serving as a Special Assistant to General Manager Neil
Huntington during the 2009 season. Benedict has served as a Minor League
Pitching Coordinator for both the Dodgers and Expos over a 20-year career
in professional baseball scouting and coaching. The Burbank, CA native
pitched three seasons in the Royals and Braves farm systems from 1984-87.
Benedict has also worked in the Indians and Yankees organizations.

STEVE LOMBARDOZZI INFIELD COORDINATOR


Steve Lombardozzi is in his first year as Minor League Infield Coordinator
for the Pirates. Lombardozzi played six years in the major leagues with the
Twins and Astros, and led all hitters with a .412 average in the Twins 1987
World Series victory. Lombardozzi has been coaching youth baseball players
of various ages since retiring after the 1990 season. His son, Steve, Jr., was
chosen by the Nationals in the 19th round of the 2008 MLB Draft, and earned
South Atlantic League All-Star mention in 2009

GREGG RITCHIE HITTING COORDINATOR


Gregg Ritchie enters his fifth season with the Pittsburgh Pirates after
spending the previous ten years as a hitting coach in the Chicago
White Sox system. Ritchie played ten seasons of pro ball in the San
Francisco organization, for Monterrey of the Mexican League, in the
Texas system, and in Taiwan. He played four seasons at George Wash-
ington University, and holds patents for instructional devices such as
the Hitters Seat and The Pitch.
