At The University of Texas at El Paso, Patricia T. Castiglia wrote that in most of the cases
the man exploits a female child. In other cases, the mother of the victim denies that her
children are getting abused, so this means both the male and the mother are incest. She
also said, that every year there are 330,000 reports made, and 90% of the accidents are
females. Patricia T. Castiglia gives more background and factual evidence on types of
abuse that happen in El Paso, Texas.

In this book the author mentions how someone can tell if theyre being abused. Child
abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, and neglecting. It explains each of the four and
what they are. Physical is when someone is overpowering a child in an aggressive action .
Sexual can be when an adult touches a child inappropriately. Emotional is basically just
verbal, by acting the child mentally. Lastly, neglect is when a parent does not pay any
attention to the kid. This can explain to someone in our state that needs help with child
abuse or someone who they might think is getting abused.

In this book, the author Jasmin Cori, explains how emotional abuse can harm a child with
their self-esteem. By calling them horrible names and using cruel words on them, can
harm them as much as hitting them. It can also be by the body language the parents give
their kids. Something as simple as a stare can intimidate a child negatively. This shows
how a childs self-esteem can be lowered by their own parents. Now in days schools have
counselors who students can talk when they are getting bullied. Emotional abuse
shouldnt be taken lately because it affects a child mentally.

The book A stolen lifewas written after a girl got escaped from her kidnapper where
she was being abused from age eleven for eighteen years. In the book Jaycee explains the
horrifying things her kidnapper would do to her. She was abused in all ways from sexual,
physical and emotional abuse. It was just an ordinary day when she was walking home
after school when they took her away. She had no idea what was going the man had just
stopped for directions when he pulled her and put her in the back of the car. This is a
really good way to show not just parents but kids as well to be careful when they are
walking home after school. It might seem like someone is nice and all they want to do is
help, but in reality they want to hurt you. They can abuse you and then leave you which
can change your entire life. This is more on the types of abuse the writer put in the story.

A couple was charged with sexual child abuse last year of two children who they were
taking care of. The people that were investigating the case think they might have been
more victims aside the two children. The couple was fostering the kids which proves that
even though some people pick the wrong person for fostering kids. From this article we
can see that even though we might not be aware of it, its happening around us in our city.
This gives more detail on sexual abuse on also gives evidence in El Paso of this type of
abuse.

In the website of Lee and Beulah Moor Childrens Home, it explains the number of child
abuse that were recorded in 2014. Two years ago the El Paso county investigated 4,979
reports of child abuse, but only 1,339 were actually victims. The two highest child abuse
cases in the El Paso county were physical and sexual abuse with 379 cases and 166, yet
emotional abuse was the lowest case reported with 56 cases. This shows that in our city is
exposed to sexual and physical abuse at a high rate. Although the records show that

Julia Magana states that child abuse is challenging to diagnose. When a doctor wants to
see or prove that a child is being abused it is better and faster when they call someone
like the child abuse pediatrics or CPS ( Child Protective Service). She also mentions that
most of the injuries a child gets is during play time and not from an actual abuse. There
are some injuries a child gets by themselves, and some that are given by someone

In Texas the highest percentage of child abuse is sexual, at 62% from ages 6-12. The
lowest is child neglect, at 1% from ages 13-17. Out of 43,000 child victims 33% were
male and 47% were females. Although females are the highest percentage, males are right
behind. So not only females should be careful, but males as well. Sexual abuse can be the
highest cases in child abuse everywhere. This shows that in our state there is a high
percentage of child abuse which is sexual. If somebody needs help regarding child abuse,
there are offices and clinics located around to help the victims.
