Good evening.

1.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone this evening to celebrate the festival of

lights namely called Deepasudar.

2.

Diwali signifies the triumph of good over evil, light over dark. The slaying of the demon

Narakasura by Lord Krishna is commonly cited as the origin of the Festival of Lights. But the
values and principles that Hindus affirm when they commemorate Diwali are of relevance to all
peoples. They have much in common with the values promoted by our other religions in
Malaysia.
3. Diwali is a signature of happiness and brotherhood where families come together to celebrate
the well-being of one another. While the festival has evolved in form and manner of celebration,
it will be nice to see efforts on part of youth to use this day to further integrate all communities
and include everybody in joining the celebrations. This evenings occasion is indeed one way in
which we come together as a multi-ethnic community to celebrate the Festival of Lights and
create bonding among us.
4.

This is the first time Deepasudar being held. In an effort to bring the joy of the Festival of

Lights to everyone, the night has been gracing with colorful and vibrant array of ethnic dances
and musical performances by JMTI Indian students. This is an excellent platform for our young
dancers, singers and musicians to display their unique artistic talents. I hope that with the success
of this years Deepasudar, other ethnic cultural groups would be spurred to participate in this
event on upcoming years.
I would like to congratulate Indian Cultural Society of JMTI for successfully organizing the
colorful spectrum night that constitute the Diwali Celebrations. With the support of the northern
region institute under ILJTM, the vibrant splendor of Indian culture has been showcased for all
to witness and enjoy. Without delaying, I wish all a very Happy Diwali. Thank you.
