EPM Data Synchronization with FDMEE 11.1.2.4.000

Data Synchronization
Data synchronization enables you to synchronize and map data between EPM source to target
applications irrespective of the dimensionality of the application simply by selecting the source and
target EPM application, and then mapping the data.
FDMEE provides the powerful mapping features already available, the data can be easily transformed
from one application to another application.
For example, synchronizing data enables you to take the data loaded from your General Ledger to
Planning, and then transformed into budget information, back to the General Ledger.
Data synchronization enables you to create synchronizations between Financial Management, Planning,
Profitability and Cost Management, Essbase (ASO), and Essbase (BSO) as destinations, and the following
sources:
o

Financial Management

Planning

Profitability and Cost Management

Essbase (ASO)

Essbase (BSO)

As per the ERPI admin guide at a high level, the steps to synchronize data in FDMEE include:

1. Import FormatSelect the source and target EPM System applications. The dimensional
mapping is also defined in the import format. You map the dimensions that comprise each
source and target application so that the synchronization can recognize all relevant elements.
2. Data Load RuleDefine the source filter parameters.
3. Executewhen the data rule is executed, data from the source EPM System is extracted to a
file. The data can be imported and processed using the data load workflow process.
4. Exportsynchronizes the data.

Step by Step Instruction

This Document assumes that you have already created Source and Target EPMA Consolidation
application and the Source Application contains a Data Set to sync with the Target Application.

1. Adding applications to FDMEE

a) Login to Workspace with Admin user credential and open Data Management > Navigate
> Administer > Data Management
b) Go to Setup Tab > Register > click on Target Application
c) In the Target Application Summary Page, Click on Add > Select the Application Type as
Financial Management > Choose the Source HFM Application > Click Ok
d) In the Application Details Page, by default the Dimension name, Target Dimension Class
and Data Table Column Name will be popped up with details > Click on Save
e) Same way add the Target HFM application

2. Defining the Import Format:

a) Setup > Integration Setup > Import Format > Import Format Summary Page > Click on
Add
b) In Details section Provide the Name, Description, Choose the Source type as EPM and
Choose the Source HFM application and Target Type As EPM and choose the Target
HFM application.
c) Click on Save

3. Defining the Location:

a) Setup > Integration Setup > Location > Click On Add
b) In the Details Section > Input the Name of the Location, Description, Choose the import
format which created in the stage2 from the Search box. Now you can see the source
and target application and other required fields are filled
c) Check entity Group and other details can be selected if already defined and needed. >
Click on Save

4. Defining Period Mapping:

a) Setup > Integration Setup > Period Mapping > In the Global Mapping > Click on Add
b) Input the Periods keys, Period Name and other target values as required. ( please refer the
FDMEE admin guide for more information on period mapping) > Click on Save
c) In the Application Mapping Tab: Choose the Target application > Add > Choose the period
mapping > input the month and year > Save
d) In the Target Mapping: Choose the Target application from drop down > Choose the Target
Period Key and Save it

5. Defining Category Mapping:

a) Setup > Integration Setup > Category Mapping > Global Mapping> Add
b) Choose the Category as Actual and Target Category as required (Actual). Select the
Frequency ( Scenario view in HFM) as Monthly
c) Application Mapping> Choose the Target Application> Click Add > Select the Category and
target category

6. Create Data Load Rule:

a) Workflow > Data Load > Data Load Rule
b) Click on the Location from the bottom of the page> In Select Point of View Choose the
below and Click OK
i. Location: Choose the location created on the stage 3;
ii. Period: Choose the period defined on stage 4;
iii. Category: Choose the category defined on stage 5;
c) Data Load rule Summary > Click Add > in the Details
I.
II.
III.

Name: Enter the data load rule name.

Category: select a category (Actual)
Period Mapping Type: select Default or Explicit.

Default - for the same period granularity (Example: source month data loading to target month)
Explicit - for different period granularity (example: Source monthly data to target quarter)
d) Source Filter
This filter decides the POV for source HFM to extract the data. If you do not select any of the
Dimensions the Base member will be selected for the POV by default.

Click Add > Choose the Dimension from Dimension Name drop down
Click on Select to choose the dimension member.
I am choosing the entire dimension listed here
Target Options and Custom Options tab provides additional load details.
Click on Save

7. Create Data Load Mapping:

a) Workflow > Data Load > Data Load Mapping > All Mappings
(I am choosing like mapping in this demo)

b) Click on "Like" tab. Choose "account" in Dimensions > Click Add > enter the below and Click
Save
a. Source value: *
b. Target value: Sales
c. Provide the Rule name and choose the Rule name from the Apply to Rule.
c) Same way create like mapping for all the dimensions shows in the Drop down.
Please go through the Data load mapping chapter in FDMEE admin guide for more information.

8. Executing Data Synchronization

a) Workflow > Data Load > Data Load Rule > Choose the Data Load rule created on the stage 6.
> Click on execute
b) Choose "import from Source" and check other parameters as required. > Click on run.

Check the Process Details for the status of the import.

For successful import the data can be seen in the DataLoad Workbench

c) Click on Export option in the Data load workbench to export the data to Target application.

On successful export a Dat will file will be created on the FDMEE Outbox folder.

d) Open the Target application > Set the Grid > check the sync data.

9. Drill Through to Source

To know whether the drill through is available, you can see a small green mark in the cell

a) Right click on the Cell > Drill > Drill Through Source
b) Now the Drill through Page will be created separately.
