Students will think
of ways to
incorporate
numbers and
operations into a
soundscape. For
example, when they
want to put in
addition, they can
make the sounds
get louder, and for
subtraction, they
can make the
sounds get quieter.

Teachers will
create a sample

focused around
patterns for the
students to hear
and understand
what is expected

Teachers will
create patterns of
different noises in
the soundscape to
show the
students.

Reading, Writing, and Communicating
1. Oral Expression and
Listening
Teachers will
create a
soundscape to
demonstrate how
the students
should go about
it. This will ensure
that the students
are paying
attention to the
way the project is
being presented
because it is
being shown to
them first hand
instead of just
being talked
about.

Students will be
able to work on this
out of class for the
majority of the
project. It may also
help to go back to
the place where the
story took place, to
draw back some of
the memories.

1. History
Students will
conduct research on
a war of their
interest and put that
information to use
in a soundscape.
They will be allowed
to watch YouTube
videos about the
war to gain more
knowledge on the
sounds that were
involved, but will

1. Physical Science
Teachers will
demonstrate a
soundscape to the
class by creating
one that has to do
with astronomy.
This could involve
a the sounds that
have to do with a
meteor shower.

Students will create
a soundscape that
includes the noises
that come from
animals and their
environment. For
example, if they
chose a wolf they
would have howling
noises along with
some rustling of the
grass where the
wolves run.

Reflection: I think that soundscapes are a great way for students to think about the noises that are actually involved in activities
and memories that the students hold dear. This will really push them to think outside the box and get their creative juices flowing,
especially when it comes to making one up for math, as I myself struggled with that. I think that it will be good for them, though,
because it is encouraging them to find the little parts of their stories that make the story so great; like the song that was playing
in the background when they got their first puppy. There are so many little sounds that are always playing in the background of
our lives that we take for granted, and I think that this activity could really get kids thinking about those sounds and they may
begin to appreciate the little things a bit more.
