Strengths
Halima you have a very
pleasant and focused presence
in the classroom. Your
approach to teaching is solid
but I believe your lesson
planning lets you down. With
deeper planning you will be
able to create more engaging
and student focused lessons
and keep the pace going so
there is little wait time. Dont
rely so much on teacher talk,
This is grade 5 so this class
can be given independent
tasks and challenged more at
their stage. Consider
everything we discussed in our
meeting and start to think of
some creative ideas for tasks
and activities. I know you want
to develop your teaching and
professionalism so keep up
your interest and efforts. I look
forward to seeing your next
lesson.

Lesson plan should use the

template and have more detail to
show your planning and lesson
strategies for learning. It was not
available to MCT until before the
lesson observation.
Halima was prepared and ready for
this lesson
Halima demonstrates a positive
attitude towards teaching and
learning. Good use of facial
expressions, eye contact and
expression. This engaged the
students. She has a warm and
friendly manner.
Lesson plans are linked to the
curriculum and booklets.
Learning objectives appear to be
testable
Lesson plans are not detailed and
planning needs to factor in
engaging activities and discussion
time so it is more student centred
No differentiation has been
incorporated into lesson plans

Halima please email your lesson

plan the day before the observation.
Include more planning details for
each lesson phase and show what
you do and what the students do.
Include your monitoring or
assessment planning too.

Managing
Learning

Uses appropriate classroom

management strategies

More needed to establish and

manage classroom routines,
expectations and transitions. These
need to be explained and students
reminded throughout the lesson too.
We discussed this in the post lesson
meeting together.

Implement
ing
Learning

Presents material which is

accurate, meaningful and
accessible to support student
engagement and learning
Sequences learning experiences

When you plan your lesson think of

ways to create and Include a range
of student centred activities in the
lesson. These will motivate and
maintain an effective classroom

Planning
for
Learning

Create strategies to support reading

in the class. Do this with your lesson
introduction and prior knowledge
check-in. With this science topic
there were many opportunities to do
this.
Model the reading and encourage
students to follow. Think of the
reading strategies you want to use
with this class..

Reflection
on Practice

Halima shows some reflection on

her teaching practice leading to
improvement

Next steps
Teacher Modelling- see lesson
plan notes
More discussion needed- pair or
group dialogue
Strategies for reading are
important to reinforce in science
too
Instructions/feedback include
expectations and areas for
improvement to give the
students ideas
Micro-teaching- right hand- we
discussed this in our meeting
More student centred activities
Move around the classroom and
teach from different places. This

environment.
Give specific feedback to students.
Feedback for learning is Important
so this requires you to move to
students desks, and interact.
Remember to also have
opportunities to talk to the back
tables.
Allow more class or group dialogue.
Teacher talk was dominant in the
lesson and students were engaged
through question/ answer
opportunities.

Action Points
Lesson plans must be submitted
the day before the observation
The pace of the lesson can be
faster. There were some slow
points in the lesson. At this age
students also need challenges
which you could give them to
close the lesson.
