areas for improvement, or any special skills or talents. Please cite specific examples to support your
observations.

Standard 1: Instructional Leadership

While leading the Social Studies department PLC Mr. Benton was tasked to brainstorm a plan that will assist the English department in
preparing their students for our upcoming Reading STARR exam. This was not a simple task because many of his colleagues felt that
they would lose precious instructional days by focusing on ELA Reading strategies. He lead the discussion in solving the problem. He
suggested that the Social Studies team could help the ELA team by focusing on topics that relates to Social Studies and focus on topics
that they are covering or will be covering. Since in Social Studies students do have to read and investigate in order to draw conclusions
on why certain things happen within a particular era, this idea was more intriguing to many colleagues and were more willing to
participate in the Campus Wide Blitz as it was called. Mr. Benton learned that as an administrator you have to effectively communicate
what you want to do and why there is a need to do certain things effectively. He also learned that your approach and how you deliver the
information is very important as well. If you deliver information in an authoritative way people are less likely to receive your message.
Implemented rigorous curricula and assessments aligned with state standards, including college and career readiness standards.

Standard 2: Human Capital

Observed classroom teacher at Atwood McDonald Elementary School.
Mr. Benton was tasked to observe a classroom at Atwood Elementary because the principal Mr. Rosatelli was trying to promote the use
of stations in the classrooms to enhance student learning. The teachers classroom he observed utilized stations in her classroom in
order to differentiate learning and engage students in meaningful learning. Even though it was an elementary class he saw how stations
would benefit students on the campus. Mr. Benton have observed some teachers on campus utilize stations to help enhance student
learning in their classrooms, but he noticed a majority teachers using direct teaching way too much in their classes. While Mr. Benton
was observing a kindergarten class he saw elementary students rotating stations on task by walking to a door that displayed the
students name, the focus for the day, and the stations they are to rotate too. He showed exceptional leadership skills by being very
informative based on his observation of how stations could benefit learners on his campus.
Coached teachers by giving individualized feedback and aligned professional development opportunities.

Standard 3: Executive Leadership

While performing administrator duties one Friday afternoon Mr. Benton had to communicate with the 8th grade counselor in deescalating
a big fight that was going to take place after school. He had to get statements from students, write down the names of students parents
and contact those parents to notify them of whats taking place. Many of the parents were very helpful in helping to deescalate the
situation. The counselor Mrs. Rea, and Mr. Benton collaborated and decided what would be the best solution in resolving the conflict.
They decided to bring the two girls into the office where the conflict stemmed and had them to talk about the conflict. In the end there
was a big misunderstanding and the young ladies decided that they would end the disagreement. From this experience, Mr. Benton
showed good examples of how good leaders resolve issues on their campus. Mr. Benton learned that you have to get to the bottom of
conflicts between students quick, if not you could have a big problem on your hands. The safety of students is your number one priority
as an administrator.Treated challenges as opportunities, and supports staff through changes. Proactively sought and acted on feedback,
reflected on personal growth areas and sought development opportunities, and accepted responsibility for mistakes.

Standard 4: School Culture

While providing safety and security for students as they load the buses to go home one evening Mr. Benton was approached by one of
the bus drivers who had an issue on her bus that needed to be investigated. He called the students into question off the bus one at a
time and questioned the students. While investigating that situation a fight broke out between two male students near the school and he
quickly had to assist with that situation. Mr. Benton showed the importance of students safety comes first and worked diligently to
ensure that both issues were resolved and students remained safe.
Implemented a shared vision of high expectations for students and staff. Established and monitored clear expectations for adult and student
conduct and implemented social and emotional supports for students.

Standard 5: Strategic Operations

One day the power went out on campus and lunch time was nearing. Mr. Benton helped to devise a plan that would make lunch run
smoothly due to the lack of power. He decided to start on the 7th grade hallways and have teachers will walk each of their classes to the
cafeteria and bring their lunch back to the classroom. Each administrator was responsible for a hallway and notified the teacher when it
was their turn to line their class up for lunch. He also had classes that were located in the interior of the school to report to open
classrooms with windows once they received their lunch. As the plan was being implemented every aspect began to run smoothly. The
power was restored and he decided to continue with the plan and teachers were told to hold their students in their class until 4th period
which was another 45 minutes. Mr. Benton showed great leadership and learned a lot from this experience, especially being able to
make quick sound decisions. Aligned resources with the needs of the school and effectively monitors the impact on school goals. Collaborated
with district staff to implement and advocate for district policies that meet the needs of students and staff.
