Action Planning
Research shows that students
are more successful with
more parent involvement.
My vision is to increase
parent involvement and
establish a means of
communication that will
reach every parent, including
our ESL parents and students.
As part of my vision to
increase parent involvement
and communication, I plan on
creating and maintaining a
parent newsletter, a
communication weekly
envelope, monthly parent
events, and with the help of
our IT department, a school
television station that will be
maintained by the students
and also viewed by our
parents.
In order to implement my
vision of increasing parent
involvement, my goal is to
not only have the parents
take ownership of parent
events, but also have the
teachers identify ways of
incorporating parent
volunteers in their
classrooms. This will include
a professional development
on how to utilize parent
volunteers.
My vision will require
supervision and guidance
that will continue through the
school year. This will begin
with the plan of action
outlined in the summer
before school starts, and then
followed through with parent
events, communication, and
running the meetings.
At the beginning of the school
year, at our first parent event
in August, I plan on surveying

Action Planning
As part of the SLT (School
Leadership Team), I will be
involved in creating policies
and procedures that will
promote a positive school
culture. One of the major
components is fine tuning
our PBIS (Positive Behavior
Intervention & Supports)
program that is already in
place. An integral part of this
program is our ClassDojo
online behavior system that I
will continue to incorporate
into our school.
One of the major
components my principal has
instituted with past few
months is UBD
(Understanding By Design).
This is a tool utilized for
teaching by design and
understanding what concept
the students need to know.
Included in this specifically is
how to create a MLO
(Mastery Learning Objective),
which will give teachers the
opportunity to think deeply
about their lessons and how
they will address higher
order thinking skills. I plan on
working closely with the
principal to incorporate this
into the classrooms. This
also included being on the

best ways to evaluate and
how we use grades. This will
include things such as what

setting up criteria that align
with Mastery Learning
Objectives. When students
know and are aware of how
they are being graded, they
have an increased chance of
success.
After attending summer

the staff. These professional

My plan is to work closely

with both the principal and
the assistant principal
preparing and organizing
policies and procedures for
the 2015-16 school year. We
have many areas that need
reorganization that include
such things as, arrival and
dismissal procedures, dress
policy, Student Support Team,
hallway expectations,
behavior matrix, etc. I will
create and maintain the staff
handbook to support the
teachers.
In order for a students to be
successful, it is crucial to
have an environment
conducive to learning and
operations running smoothly.
I plan on working with the
principal to set-up for the
new school year and manage
day to day operations when
needed.

This was a very in depth, lengthy process. We

basically had to start from the ground up
considering we did not have any of these in our
building. I created all the documents and then
loaded them onto our school website so the
teachers could have access to them. I continue to
update this throughout the year. I also created the
school logo and had the banner made for the year.

I worked for several hours to assist with the

website and staff handbook. Working in the
summer gave me a true inside idea as to how
much it takes to get a school ready for the year,
not only for students but the teachers as well. Our
building was also under construction which made it
very difficult to manage, but I learned how to be
flexible and work around obstacles.
I also spent 3 days as the substitute AP in the
building and this was a true experience because I
was able to see what an administrator deals with
on a daily basis.
I ordered the many things needed for our parent
involvement activities. I found this to be a very
frustrating experience due to the district
requirements. However, again, this gave me great
experience on how to deal with various types of
difficulties.

by planning several different

Getting parent involvement continues to be an

area that needs improvement. I have not been
able to get one parent from each homeroom, but
we are making strides in this area.

Working in a predominately

and celebrate different
cultures. In addition, I will
create a student handbook
that will be accessible in
different languages.
My plan as the parent

the gap between our school

outside resources and make
them available to the
parents. Specifically, the

One of the most important

aspects as a leader is
integrity. In attending
leadership workshops and
running and leading
committees, I will act with
integrity and continue to be
a model to both staff and
students.
I plan on creating and
maintaining the Faculty
handbook during my
internship. I will need to
make decisions and
incorporate policies that are
fair and consistent to all
staff. In order to implement
this, all staff need to feel a
sense of fairness. I will
address this when writing all
the different components of
this handbook.
Interning in the summer, I
will be dealing with and
viewing many student
records, and parent files. As
a teacher, and leader, it is
important to maintain
confidentiality and act in an
ethical manner. In addition,
my involvement in the
Parent Committee will also
require me to be diplomatic.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend a 3

day conference with my principal in Washington DC.
This conference gave me many resources that I was
able to share back with the rest of the staff. This
was also a great networking opportunity.

larger context in that it is
not just one class or

of a larger context in that
it is the school as an
entirety that is affected.
My plan is to continue to
work on the SIG team,
and the Site Based Team
to make decisions that
will directly effect the
school as a whole.

Being a SIG school has run teachers stress and

frustration levels very high. As a leader, this
presented a challenge in that the teachers need to
feel validated and engaged in the schools positive
culture. This continues to be an ongoing push since
now we are a school in receivership and there is a
big sense of urgency.
