1. How is craft beer different from big name beers such as Budweiser, Miller, Coors,
Heineken, Natural Light, Busch, and Michelob?

Craft beer is set aside from other Big Names beers such as; Budweiser, Miller,
Coors, Heineken, Natural Light, Busch, and Michelob, because craft beer gives
the buyer an experience and quality.

2. List some imitation craft beers.

Some imitation craft beers include Blue moon, Third shift, Bock beer, and
Leinenliugels Honey Weiss.

3. Is the rising popularity of microbreweries seen only with the hipster subculture or is it a
shift in mainstream American culture?

The rising popularity of microbreweries seen only with the hipster subculture is
now shifting to mainstream culture.

4. Describe the main ingredients in craft beer and how they affect flavor.
a. Hops are plants that add flavor to the craft beer, some are bitter some are citrus.
b. Malt is an ingredient that gives sweetness to the craft beer.
c. The Yeast allows fermentation to occur and that can affect the flavor of the beer.
d. Water helps with dilution in the beer, however the water needs to be pure mineral
water.
5. What do these acronyms stand for and why are they important?

The acronym ABV stands for Alcohol By Volume, which determines the amount
of alcohol that is in craft beer.

Standard Reference method of SRM is the color system used by brewers to


specify finished beer and malt color

International Bitterness Unit abbreviation is IBU, and it is important because it


measures the bitterness of the beer on a scale 5 o 120. However there is no real
limit on how bitter the beer has to be or can be.

6. What does gravity mean when referencing beer?

When referencing to beer gravity is how you can tell the strength of the beer.

7. When drinking craft beer, perception is important. Why?

Perception is important because how the buyer perceives the product determines
whether or not it will do well with consumers.

8. Craft beer should be served in specific glasses. Why?

Craft beer should be in specific class, because perception is important. The unique
glass enhances the experience of beer tasting

a. Beer should never be served in chilled glasses. Why?

Craft Beer should never be chilled, because it affects the taste of the beer.

9. A growing trend in craft beer is adding special ingredients, or adjuncts, to beer. What are
some examples of adjuncts?

Some examples of adjuncts are cinnamon, chocolate coffee, blood orange


coconuts, and chilies flakes.

10. How is beer carbonated?

Beer is naturally carbonated with air and carbon dioxide.

11. What is the importance of foam (head)?

The foam is a unique part of craft beer, because it enhances the texture of the beer
when you drink it. Also it helps with the smell of beer.
