WEAR OF CADET UNIFORM HANDOUT

These are some tips on how to look sharp in uniform. Follow these, take pride in your appearance, and you will
enhance the image of yourself, your unit, our school, and the United States Air Force.

Avoid any unauthorized mixing of uniform items.

Keep your uniform clean, neat, and pressed.
Wear you cap whenever outdoors, remove it before coming indoors.
Place your insignia correctly according to instructions.
Keep your hands out of your pockets and keep pocket buttoned.
Tuck your shirt or blouse in tightly at the sides.
Align the leading edge of your shirt with the belt buckle and fly of your pants. (The line this forms has
been affectionately called the gig line by cadets who have been gigged for having shirt, buckle, and
pants fly out of line)
Males put belt on from the left, females from the right. The silver tip end of the belt extends beyond the
buckle, however no blue fabric shows.
Keep shirt and coat buttoned at all times. The coat may be removed in class or while eating.
Keep coat on in public places unless specifically allowed to do otherwise by your SASI/ASI.
Males always keep your hair off the collar, tapered, and above the ears; be clean shaven and have clean,
short fingernails.
Females always keep your hair pinned up or worn above the bottom edge of your collar. Keep makeup
conservative, fingernails within length, and conservative, single-color polish, with no ornamentation.
Wear one pair of stud earrings in your ear lobe that are small conservative white diamond, white pearl,
gold, or silver round balls.
Necklaces can be worn, but must be of the length to not be seen in uniform. May wear one watch, one
bracelet, and no more than a total of three (3) rings.
Dont put items in your pockets that cause them to bulge, and avoid putting pens, pencils, and other
items where they protrude from the pockets.
Keep shoes, especially heels and toes, highly polished.
Trim loose strings and frayed seams. Check yourself in the mirror before going outdoors.
Carry books and packages in left hand, keeping right hand free for saluting.
Use the Buddy System to check each others uniform wear.
Respectfully correct fellow cadets if you observe them violating uniform standards.

Do Not dispute or argue uniform violations brought to your attention by inspecting Officers/NCOs. If you feel
it is in standards, bring it to the attention of the SASI/ASI and allow them to make the determination and correct
the problem.
