Today we are here not only to make presentations, but also to get your feedback. As you
know, everyone wants success in their lives. For this reason,we hope you will like our PBL
topic which would change your opinions about being successful. As you can see on our
poster, we chosen four skills. These are time management , presentation, leadership and
teamwork. OK, now I would like to present about time management.
Time management refers to the way that you organize and plan how long you spend time on
specific activities. Time always affects people's lives as long as they are doing something.
As we all know, there is never enough time during the day. But we all have the same 24
hours, why is it that some people achieve so much more with their time than others? The
answer lies in good time management skills. I think many people want to learn how your life
can change with time management skills. Therefore, today, I will explain during the my
presentation some key points about time management.
Alright, which skills are required for effective time management? Some of these skills
include setting clear goals, breaking down your goals into discrete steps and reviewing your
progress towards your goals in action planning. Everyone needs to prepare their own action
plan because people determine their path themselves. Thanks to action plans, people can
feel more in control because they don't forget what to do. Another advantage is that
people don't need to remember everything. It seems to me that if we write our daily plans
in a schedule , we can check what to do accordingly. For example, if we ever went back to
our high school,we would have seen the effects of time management in our lives. We had
almost five lessons but we couldn't study all of them because we didn't have an effective
action plan. I mean that if we learnt information and practice about time management,
then today our exam results would be better. Besides, at that time we didn't only study
lessons, but we also had a social life. Also, some directors claim that personnels should
manage time for companies' efforts. Because it is important to achieve a lot of things in a
short time.Second significant way is setting goals and objectives.Set yourself specific and
clearly defined goals and make sure that these are realistic and achievable. To do this, you
first need to analyze your present situation and assess what goals are important to you and
what you need to do to achieve your target. For reaching the target, time should be used
effectively and the most important goal must be selected to complete first. In addition,
when you know what your goals and priorities are,you need to know how to create a
schedule that keeps you on track, and protects you from stress. Lastly, another noticeable
thing is managing your routine for effective time management. It is estimated that up to
90%of our daily activities are routines such as getting up and eating meals. If you want to
improve your time management, you ought to improve your daily routine. The best way to
do this is to make small changes in your life and learn to say no sometimes. This is because
sometimes saying no to work which is not your job allows you some free-time for yourself
unless of course, someone puts pressure on you! So anyways, when you learn to manage your
time, you could have a regular social life. Although time is short , we can learn how time
can be managed. In fact, every skill can be gained by being patience. As Tolstoy said, the
two most powerful warriors are patience and time.

Communication

Motivation

Your draft plan (attach plan here)
Today, I will give some information about leadership which is considered as a chain between
academic and professional life. There are many definitions of leadership. Dictionaries
mostly define leadership as the leader of a party or group. Yet true leadership is much
more than that. A leader can be for example the CEO of an organization, a commander of
an army or a senior employee who leads his team. A leader might lead through official
authority and power, yet great leaders lead through inspiration, motivation, trustworthiness
and communication.
So lets define what leadership is. The best definition is Leadership is the art of leading
others to deliberately create a result that wouldnt have happened otherwise.
Its not just the creation of results that makes good leadership but also a good leader is
able to create challenging results by the support of others.
What makes a good leader? Here are some of their most important characteristics.
The first feature is communication.
Efffective team leaders communicate clearly. Knowing what you want may seem clear in
your head, but If you try to explain it to someone else and meet with a blank expression,
you know there is a problem. If this has been your experience, then you may want to
focus on your communication skills. Being able to clearly describe what you want to do is
extremely important. If you cant relate your vision to your team, you wont be working
towards the same goal.
Quality verbal and written communication skills allow leaders to present expectations to
team members in a way workers can understand. Effective communication skills also allow
team leaders to listen to the others. Interaction between the leader and the team
members can be possible with speaking and listening mutually.
1)

An open door policy in the academia or business environment

2)

Talking to your staff and colleagues on a daily basis

3)

Being available to discuss common issues

Eventually ,there may be 2 results 1)Your team will trust and depend on you,
2) They will be less hesitant to
work harder.
The second feature Trustworthiness.
For sure, those are all good qualities for a leader to have, but the answer is actually
trustworthiness. Technically, tS not just being trustworthy that is key, bot being seen as
trustworthy by the team members.
When your team trusts you as a leader, t increases commitment to team goals.
Communication improves, and ideas flow more freely, increasing creativity and productivity.
Perhaps most important, in the hands of a trusted leader, employees are more comfortable
with change and more willing to accept a new vision.
On The Other Hand
When your team doesnt trust you, you dont get their best effort. You will then find
yourself unable to inspire, affect and create real change.
A leader can become more self-aware, be adaptable, believe in others, and communicate
clearly, but without holding others accountable the leader quickly loses trust.
The third feature Inspiration and motivation
Motivation is a goal oriented characteristic that helps a person achieve his objectives. It
pushes an individual to work hard at achieving his or her goals. A leader must have right
leadership traits to influence motivation. However, there is no specific blueprint for
motivation.
Being able to inspire your team is great for focusing on the future goals, but it is also
important for the current issues. For instance, when majority is exhausted in work, morale
is low, and energy levels are decreasing, then its clear that everyone needs a break for
refreshment.
As a leader, one should keep an open perspective on human nature. Knowing different
needs of the members will certainly make the decision- making process easier. An effective
leader must have knowledge of motivational factors for others. He must understand the
basic needs of employees, peers and his superiors. Leadership is used as a means of
motivating others.
Productivity morale is linked to productivity, and its your job as the team leader to
maintain a positive energy. Thats where your sense of humor will finally pay off. Encourage
your team to laugh at the mistakes instead of crying. If you find the humor in the
straggles, the working environment will become a happy and healthy place. Make it a point
to crack jokes with your team and encourage personal discussions of weekend plans and
trips. Its these short breaks from the task at hand that help keep productivity levels high
and morale even higher.
In order to motivate the team members

1)

Be aware of the needs

2)

Appreciate the efforts

3)

Reward

4)

Try to be a role model

5)

Encourage team members to get involved in planning

6)

Be self-motivated
To become an efficient leader, you must be self-motivated. You must know your identity,
your needs and you must have a strong urge to do anything to achieve your goals. Once you
are self-motivated, only then you can motivate others to achieve their goals and to
harmonize their personal goals with the common goals of the organization.

Interacting with the audience

Your draft plan (attach plan here)
I would like to tell you about what is a presentation and presentation skills. A
presentation is the practice of showing and explaining the content of a topic to an audience
or learner. It is also the means of communication that can be adapted to various speaking
situations, such as talking to a group, addressing a meeting or briefing a team. A
presentation requires you to get a message across to the listeners and will often contain a
'persuasive' element. Therefore, presentation skills are needed to be successful in our
academic and Professional life.
There are two basic types of presentations that you will most likely deliver during your
educational and professional career . The purpose of an informative presentation is to
promote the understanding of an idea or to convey certain information. They are often

used to provide people with information about a concept or idea that is new. A presentation
on "Endangered Species in the South American Rain Forest" is an example of an informative
presentation. The second type of presentation is a persuasive presentation. The goal of a
persuasive presentation is to influence a change in the belief, attitude, or behavior of
another person when that person has some degree of free choice. Expanding upon the
example provided above, a persuasive presentation would not only inform the audience
members about the South American rain forest and its endangered species, but would also
try to get them to take specific and appropriate action to save these species.
There are lots of small things you can do prior to your presentation that will help calm
your nerves and set you up for a better presentation. If you want to have a good
presentation skills, one of the best things that you can do practice . Practice can be in
front of the mirror, in the shower and in front of your close friends or family members.
However, if you memorize it word for word, then your presentation will sound too
rehearsed and you'll feel out of your element if you lose your place or are asked an
unexpected question. Instead, you should practice it enough so that you feel so
comfortable with the subject matter. Additionally , the other thing needed in the
presentation is self-motivation. Self-motivation is a key life skill and something that
everyone interested in personal development should think about carefully. Well ! How to be
self motivated? I am going to tell you about the 2 most important things. Firstly , Focus
on positive goals. It's simple to know what we don't want. It's simple to know what we're
afraid of. Often it's harder to pinpoint what exactly would make us happy and what
exactly we're striving for However, to get anything done, we have to start thinking with
positive goals, not negative fears. Secondly , Before the presentation, go outside take a
deep breath through your nose and exhale through your mouth .Then say loudly I CAN DO
THIS. This is my day and today I WILL BE AWESOME. Again say those words loudly and
then go give your presentation. Moreover , Presentation planning is a useful and necessary
skill in the professional world as well as school. Whether you need to sell a product, or get
a passing grade in your class, planning a presentation takes time and dedication. Collect
your information in a logical order that best illustrates your point. On the other hand ,
when you are presenting , you should interact with the audience. Because asking the
audience what they think, inviting questions , and other means of welcoming audience
participation can increase interaction and make attendees feel like a part of a
conversation. You should see them as an opportunity to give your audience what they want.
Therefore , presentation skill is important skill which includes self motivation , practice ,
interacting with the audience and planning beforehand .In summary, what I want to say is
that you should pay attention to this skill for success in your academic and professional
life.

As you can see in the poster for Success in Academic and Professional life,
we need to follow a long path to success. This road is fun and full of
surprises. On the other hand this path is also tiring. There are many wagons
in this train to success and also There are many precious skills in these wagons. It is
very important that these skills work together. Team work is one of these wagons
Teamwork is very important in my daily life because I dealt with my team and I'm
.doing this project-based learning with my friends. Therefore, this project is a good
example of team work.

Before moving on to the details of Team Spirit and Teamwork, it is necessary

to understand the concept of "Team".
It can be defined as Any group of people who work together or
interdependently in order to cooperatively meet the needs of their customers
by accomplishing a purpose or goal.
Why is teamwork important?

Teams have skills that require a variety of skills, experience, and

reasoning. Therefore They are more successful than the efforts of a single
individual
Teams provide more information in proportion to the number of members
In team work, membersare always requesting something from each
other in and therefore, This empowers feelings of cooperation.
Team spirit develops this causes a motivational increase
Teams make too many brain storms and they have of different ideas
therefore Teams adapt more quickly to changes
Successful team building steps
Creation of team

Team members get used to each other

Team members gain power team spirit consist of
Beginning of applications for the project
Synergy - common power
Performance
As you know, we are students now thus I will talk to you about the qualities of a good
team in terms of students. Students should be Listening, Questioning, Persuading.
Respecting . Helping Sharing, Participating during group work
Qualities of a good team
1. Listening:
The students in this team listen to each other's ideas. You will observe the students "piggybacking" (or building) off each other's ideas.
2. Questioning:
The students in this team question each other. You will observe the students interacting,
discussing, and posing questions to all members of the team.
3. Persuading:
The students in this team use persuasion. You will observe the students exchanging,
defending, and rethinking ideas.
4. Respecting:
The students in this team respect the opinions of others. You will observe the students
encouraging and supporting the ideas and efforts of others in their team.
5. Helping:
The students in this team help each other. You will observe the students offering assistance to
each other.
6. Sharing:
The students in this team share. You will observe the students offering ideas and reporting
their findings to each other.
7. Participating:
The students in this team participate. You will observe each student contributing to the
project.
If our goal is success in every areas, one of the most important and key is GOOD
AND HEALTHY COMMUNICATION because communication is the most important
part of the team spirit
Humans can only live and develop our connections with other people.
I will tell you the words of some famous thinkers regarding communication
Thinking wrong will damage the owner if they speak incorrectly.Everyone is harmed

Montesquieu
If you talk loud, they will hear only your voice , If you talk in a low voice they listen to
what you said
Tristan Bernard
Is small the number of those who are inherently good listener. It is necessary to learn
conscious effort and new skills to be a good listener.
Doan Ccelolu
If the team has weak and bad communication it is probably due to the following
reasons;
Loss of time and energy
Loss of confidence
extension in the completion date of the work
Preventing positive change
Performance is worsening
Because of this, you need to make sure that the team has good communication
It is the story of migration of wild geese that best describes teamwork skill
You see the migrating wild geese floating in the air with a V-shaped formation: Scientists
have explored why geese have gone this way. As a result of the research,
The V flight creates an air current that lifts it for each bird behind the bird. Thus, a group of
goose flying in a V-shaped formation prolongs flight distances by 70% by using the air stream
that comes out of each other's wing flap.
ALSO
we can encounter these examples in many areas in our daily life. For instance Coherence of a
medical team in the operating room is very important. They do their work in sync and
together and thanks to their teamwork They save a lot of people's lives
The real power is the contribution of the teams in their union!
When you leave the team, you lose your real power!
Pay attention to team co-operation as real power.
Pay attention to team and team communication as real power
Adapt to change and new ambitions, new goals, new associations to have real power.
As understood from this example, teamwork creates power and this power
will lead us to success.

Summary of the third week

In this week we prepared our own presentation texts for practice. Every group
members used time effectively so individual time got along 8-10 minutes. We
could improve ourselves in terms of communication in community and in our
opinion it was very important for us. Because for academic and professional life
every students should learn what to do if they need present something.
In addition , after our presentations other groups members got their feedbacks
which included our presentations comments. Thanks to their feedback, we learnt
how we contact with eyes during the presentation. Another noticeable thing is
that we designed poster which was created our key points. But we want to make
small changes on poster like colour. Also before the presentation we were
excited while talking because we met different people for discussion about PBL
but now we are ready if someone asks a question us about our presentation so
we may answer all questions.
Adapted from Sabanc University

Duygu Bahtiyar

In this phase I improved some individual skills such as communication and time
management during the presentation. In my opinion communication was very hard for me
because before the practice I couldn't speak fluently but I could gained this quality thanks
to getting feedback. For time management skill, actually this is my topic which was
researched. However, until the practice I couldn't manage individual time so my speaking
had to last 8 minutes. I could set up period of my speaking. For this I spoke slowly and
fluently. But I cannot still use my body language because I always feel nervous while
talking in a community. Also, I improved my teamwork skill so in the past I didn't like to
study with other people but thanks to pbl, I observed how people encourage each other
while preparing something. Actually, this skill is very noticeable for me because in the
future I will must to study with other people in my department. It seems to me that for
future learners I can give an advice which would improve their skills about how they
prepare PBL or other presentations. For example, all students should study with their
group members. Thanks to it, students may achieve their topic quickly. Another advice is
that pupils ought to pay attention to feedbacks because my skills mostly developed with
teacher and friends feedbacks.

pek Hoaf

In this phase has been very busy for me. I could improve myself in terms
of communication in community and in my opinion It was very important
for me. I learnt presentation rules in this phase. I couldnt speak fluently
because I was nervous and I had some pronunciation mistakes. So I cannot
still use my body language because I was afraid of making mistakes. Also I
improved my computer skills. This skill gave me confidence. At the same
time, I improved my teamwork . Because for academic and professional
life every students should learn what to do together If they need present
something. I learnt now I research something about my topic. In this way, I
found more accurate information. I learnt how I study regularly. Thanks to

pbl, now I feel very confident. I think you would practice and more
confident.

Dilara AYDIN

In this phase , before creating a poster, I didn't have a information about

poster and I've never made a poster until now. But thanks to PBL, I have
learned many information and had some skills. For example , while preparing a
poster and sharing my information with group members, I have improved
research skills and friendship. Moreover, before the presentation, I prepared a
plan what I will do in presentation. I think, having a plan makes your job easier.
So, a business before you do, you should make a plan. That's why, I learned
how I study regularly. Also, while preparing the presentation speech, I felt
scared. Because, I didn't write more than 300 words an essay until now but I
needed to write an essay that lasts for 8 to 10 minutes. Therefore, I raised
word knowledge. However, I still had a shortage of time. So, I added some
information and did many practice. Thanks to practice, I talked more fluently
and developed time management. Lastly, I want to say is that as long as you
have a presentation, you would practice and plan. Thus, your speaking and
working skills will definitely improve.

ECEM KURUCU

In this phase had too many tasks. I had to prepare a presentation.I made a
presentation for about 9 minutes. It was very difficult for me because during
the one week I constantly changed my presentation due to getting feedback.
Thanks to PBL presentation,I gained some qualities. For instance I improved my
research skills. I learned how I research something about my topic. I can do
research without wasting anymore time. Also while researching teamwork skill,
I learned many teamwork qualities. I applied these qualities in the project.
Therefore my friendship relations were better. We are more compatible within
the group. Lastly for future learners I can give advice. For example I was so
nervous during the presentation. Future learners need to practice a lot. In this
way they become more confident. Thanks to practice they could talk more
fluently. Thus absolutely they should use body language . If without body
language, the presentation can be boring.
